The Gray Lady Speaketh On Mid-Major Success

Today's New York Times quotes George Mason's head coach Jim Larranaga on the success of mid-major teams in this year's NCAA tournament: "[T]the biggest factors helping midmajor programs were age and experience. 'There are programs that one-and-done definitely does hurt,' he said. 'But it definitely helps the midmajor programs to be able to retain players until their junior and senior year. Age is a factor; you get older and smarter and stronger.'" If so, this is further evidence next year UCLA should experience a quantum jump in competence if we keep everybody or next to everybody.
