I've never seen a team shut it down so quickly when they had it going

by UCLA4Life on Mar 5, 2011 4:49 PM PST reply actions

I am not just saying this because of that last play

But i HATED JA last year and its pretty hard for me to change the way I feel but no one on this team has impressed me more with his progress and maturity than JA this year. On a team with alot of questionable personalities JA gives me someone to root for.

by DK BRUIN on Mar 5, 2011 4:50 PM PST reply actions

I totally agree.

It is a wonderful thing to watch. He is now the epitome of Coach’s definition of success. And I think, unlike some others here, that it says a lot about CBH. Never would have seen improvement with the St John’s “coach”.

Both guards are vastly better than their previous 2 seasons. I’d like a little more offense from them though, but their effort this season has been good.

by UCLA4Life on Mar 5, 2011 4:52 PM PST up reply actions

Food for thought.

Could we be saying the same thing about TH next year? People seem to forget he and Reeves are only sophomores. It took Jerime until his junior year for the light to start coming on.

I think it’s on the players. If the team comes out flat and doesn’t execute according to the game plan, that’s on the players. CBH uses all of his TOs to get the message to them to run it right.

I really don't see how you could not be happy.

The first half, sure. Second? Not a chance.

"Every day was a good day at UCLA." -Coach John Wooden

by OswegoBruin on Mar 5, 2011 5:01 PM PST up reply actions

There were some problems in the second half

They started to be less aggressive after getting a 4 point lead and really didn’t attack the defense, especially when WSU was in the penalty and UCLA had only 3 team fouls. WSU was doubling Smith hard and in OT the Bruins finally took advantage with the first 2 possessions by having Smith go to a high pick-and-roll that freed Reeves down low.

by UCLA4Life on Mar 5, 2011 5:04 PM PST up reply actions

another factor, i think, in the change was WSU was better at getting back on defense

i really didn’t see an attempt to change our approach, which was always to take advantage of our bigs.

by mplsbruin on Mar 5, 2011 5:08 PM PST up reply actions

agree with you Oswego! We came back from a stinker of a first half.

I’d also say that WSU kind of wore down, and came back “to earth” a bit. Motum was less Kobe-esque in the second half.

by mplsbruin on Mar 5, 2011 5:04 PM PST up reply actions

Stanford down 12 to Cal at halftime

A Loss places them into a 7th place tie w/Oregon, puts them as the 8-seed against Oregon State on Weds. We would get the winner of Oregon/ASU in that event.

by Patroclus on Mar 5, 2011 5:05 PM PST up reply actions

Depends on the outcome of Cal-Stanford

If Cal wins (they are up 12 early in the 2nd half), we play the winner of Oregon/ASU.

4-2 over the last 6 games ain't bad

that is what I expected. We took care of business at home and dropped a couple on the road. The best thing that came out of these last 6 games is that our defense really stepped it up. Now the offense is another story

If you'd offered that 6 games ago, we'd take it

I was worried we could easily finish 2-4, so I am happy with the results. However, watching the games, I understand the frustration of many, and myself as the games went on, as we could have won every one of those.
