Former Bruin Bob Myers named Asst GM of Golden State Warriors

HT to Fresia39 for fanposting this earlier as the rumor grew. It is now official. Former Bruin Bob Myers will become the Assistant General Manager for the Golden State Warriors.

However, this is not the end point of his hire.

Warriors GM Larry Riley will receive a contract extension to stay, but sources told Y! Sports that owner Joe Lacob offered Myers the job with an understanding he’ll eventually ascend to the top of basketball operations.

Congratulations to Bob. Myers played for U.C.L.A. from 1993-1997, and was part of this team. He has been a very successful agent in recent years, working with the top NBA player rep firm in the country. No doubt, these connections will become valuable as he seeks to rebuild the Warriors.

Myers becomes the second Bruin to run an NBA front office, joining 1983 graduate David Kahn, who is currently the GM of the Minesota Timberwolves.

Update (A): Couple of more UCLA-NBA front office related notes. The GM of the Utah Jazz -Kevin O’Connor - was a UCLA assistant coach under both Larry Brown and Larry Farmer. Those of us around at the time just called him Coach O-C. In addition, Gerald Madkins is the Director of Scouting for the Houston Rockets, reporting to their GM Daryl Morey.
