Students to Vote on Den seating
From today's Daily Bruin:
"The council voted to add two advisory votes to the upcoming elections ballot. One, proposed by the Den, addresses relocating the student section of the gym from the north side to the east side, behind the basketball hoop. "

I saw that today...
Can you see if the DB can do an article about that before elections to publicize it to the student body? Do we know what the wording of the proposition will be? And the bigger question, will the results actually make a difference to the Morgan Center’s seating arrangements?
Even if the students vote overwhelmingly against the Morgan Center decision,
They will merely take it under advisement. That is what an advisory vote is. However, if the students DO come out and vote for this, it will destroy the Morgan Center lie that the students approved of this or even wanted it.

I assume it's the Den trying to be proactive...
To show that students feel strongly about the seating. I’ll do some digging on my end to find out what’s going on with it.
A lot depends on who counts the votes
I don’t trust the administration or any of its adjuncts (i.e., the DB). It seems unlikely to me that the school would publicize anything that was critical of the athletic department, so I foresee enough hanging chads to show that the student body overwhelmingly voted to sit in Siberia.
Umm...
This is done AFTER the decision by the Moron Center? Why does the Den do an advisory vote now? I thought they were the ones who approved the move? What the hell is going on out there?!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
You guys have to keep in mind that not once was the student body or the Den presented with Morgan Center's plans before hand.
They took the survey to justify their move, then made it. When word got out they went to USAC and said: choose between one unified block of student seating behind the basket or having 3 disunited student sections around Pauley. It’s like choosing your method of execution.
I agree that USAC and/or Den should have made the ruckus then; responding they will have neither of those poor choices. But, students are kids, and easily intimidated and when someone in authority makes a decision they often capitulate on the spot.

I agree with you
It is one reason why I was really hoping the Den leader who went along with the original decision would come here and work with the community to restore student seating. He instead decided to justify a bad decision with incoherent arguments. I still remain open minded. If those student leaders come back here and work with us to get court-side seating restored instead of complaining about how this community is moderated, we can make progress. I hope they will join the effort.
Leaked Question Wording
Have USAC and the Den represented the student body to the best of their abilities in securing the best possible seating for students in the newly renovated Pauley Pavilion?
Please choose from the answers below:
A. Yes
B. Definitely!

This goes back to Mexi's survey
They need to ask a simple yes or no question, “Should there continue be a sudent seating section along the sideline of the court at basketball games?” or something like that. Mucking it up with options of keeping the students together or alternate seating sections will jjust detract from the main point.
Hammer the point that students belong on the sideline. Then move on from there.

How about
“Should the students sit on the sideline, as established by Coach Wooden when Pauley Pavilion opened?”
Yes
No.
Or you could make it a little more specific: “Should the students sit on the sideline, as established by Coach Wooden when Pauley Pavilion opened, and before the current inept, morally bankrupt bureaucrats took over?” (Not to put too fine a point on it.).

You’re putting too fine a point on it :)

I disagree...
unlike the original morgan center question, at least they know what the question is. Well asked Fox. I am still laughing at this question!
Go Bruins!
