Update (BN Eds): The anticipated press release did not materialize on Thursday. UCLA still remains mum about the student seating fiasco around new Pauley.
According to a blog post in the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Sports Arena will be the primary home for the UCLA men's basketball team for the 2011-12 season. The Times also notes that the Honda Center in Anaheim will host a few games.
UCLA will announce Thursday that it will play a majority of its home basketball games at the Sports Arena next season, with a sprinkling of games at the Honda Center, according to a person familiar with the arrangement who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly comment until the plan was officially unveiled.
The Sports Arena, located in Exposition Park near the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the city's natural history museum, was the sometimes home of the Bruins before the construction of Pauley Pavilion. It was also the home of the USC Trojans, the Los Angeles Lakers (before they moved to the Forum in Inglewood) and the Los Angeles Clippers (before they moved to Staples Center).
No word on where the student's section will be located in the Sports Arena -- or if anyone in the administration cares where the student's section will be located in the Sports Arena.
