Mission Accomplished: U.S. Forces Kill Osama!
Uh. Hey. Hello everyone.
I know this one has nothing to do with UCLA athletics per se but it has everything to do with who we are.
I remember 9-11 like it was yesterday. I saw the plane from Dulles streaking straight to the Pentagon from the roof top of our offices after watching in horror the collapse of the Twin Towers. I remember the feeling of being in total siege with bomb sniffing dogs and Humvees all around Washington.
This feels incredible. There is a sense of relief. There is a sense of joy. The feeling I have inside tonight is the exact opposite of what I felt on 9-11. What is also surreal is that today is the 8th anniversary of "Mission Accomplished."
I will let you all get back to regular programming ... but chant with me.
USA! USA! USA!
Oh and GO BRUINS.

8 friggen’ years since Mission Accomplished. Wow. I feel so, I don’t know…it is surreal. How did they finally find get him?
Go Bruins!
Navy SEAL Team Six.
They’re part of SAD-SOG, which is a huge anti-terror special operations task force in conjuction with the CIA. These are the best of the best, and damn the do good work :).

Right
but saying DevGru to someone makes no sense at all and it sounds like a Swedish manufacturing firm.

Third try is the charm
Of course, this is all thanks to Donald Trump.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

The announcement was from politicians, and I don't believe politicians
We all saw pictures of Saddam Hussain. I want to see a picture of Bin Laden with a hole in his head before I start celebrating.
I hope it’s true, but I don’t want to be disappointed if it turns out that we got Dennis or Jimmy Bin Laden instead of Osama Bin Laden.
Skepticism
I guess I am more skeptical about why the government didn’t get him before than I am that they got him now.
Go Bruins!
N, I can't imagine having watched any of this first hand.
It was traumatizing enough on TV
Go Bruins!
It is party time right now in DC
No one can go to sleep. People gathering outside WH. Total, uncontrollable joy.
If only...
Metro ran later! I would totally be down there at the White House celebrating with everyone!! USA! USA!
FINALLY
Don’t know why I am surprised BN already has a post up on this.
Great day for the world and the USA

Let's never
put those guys in the same sentence.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Sweet!
Was gone this whole weekend with no Internet access, and I come back and see this! Awesome news!!!
People on the East Coast
are accusing the Obama Administration of timing this announcement to disrupt tonight’s airing of Celebrity Apprentice.
Oh UCLA you sweet bitch, you've BRUINed me for anything else.
My question
With the shake up at the top, what’s the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List going to look like on Monday? You know how people make R.I.P. shirts with pictures on them? Has anyone ever made a B.I.H. (Burn In Hell) shirt? I would totally rock one tomorrow.
Small irony
May 1 is also the day that it was announced that Adolf Hitler was dead (he shot himself on April 30, confirmed the following day).
America = WINNING!
My guess?
Within the next 2 years, the next Call of Duty will have the Osama raid as a mission. Remember when you got to shoot Castro in the last one?
Yeah, I suspect that mission alone will make it the top-grossing CoD of all time. Put money on it.
They sort of already did that in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
They had a raid on a compound in the middle east. Small, elite team of operators, extremely HVT terrorist responsible for killing thousands, and the soldiers captured him, then shot him in the head. Al-Asad was his name. Good game, and the similarities are pretty striking.

HAHA!
Totally forgot about that one! I saw it twice in the theater!

Have to agree with a family member of someone who died in Twin Towers
as quoted on NBC – can’t imagine cheering and celebrating the death of someone..but for this bastard (perhaps not their word), it feels right.
Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
Fantastic news!
However, we all know that Obama didn’t “get” anyone; he merely gave an order from thousands of miles away. To say that Obama “got” him is an insult to the actual warriors on the ground doing the deed. The intelligence just happened to manifest on Obama’s watch.
Nevertheless, this is fantastic news.
What are you talking about?
You mean to tell me he didn’t fly over there, strap on a bullet proof vest, and start shooting? I, for one, am disillusioned.
true, but...
It wasn’t merely under his watch, as if he were a nightwatchman who just happened to be manning the desk when it happened. He is the commander-in-chief. He took us into an unpopular war on the heels of an already unpopular war (one that had little to do with its original goal). He was the commander-in-chief during several intelligence briefings, giving the OK to make this happen, getting the cooperation of the Pakistani govt to make this happen. This wasn’t merely on his watch. He played a big part in this. If not for him and his military leaders, we would be in Iraq right now looking in gopher holes for that asshole.

The Pakistani gov't wasn't in the Osama takedown
Or else it wouldn’t have happened…
Will be interesting to see if they had any role in the intelligence process at all
That's a good point
As long as the fact that he also happens to the CIC. This operation has been building for a while and he personally was overseeing the details of it through number of planning stages since last March.
Our men and women get all the credit but so does the guy who has been leading them last 2 years.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

Wow...
what a day. Osama Bin Laden is finally gone. After almost 10 years, Mission fully Accomplished!

Rot in hell!
yet his worthless life does not equate all the lives lost and ruined.
It'll be a better world without him.
I hate to cheer the killing of any man, but I’ll go with the words of Dennis Miller who once said, “The world is full of evil MF’ers and sometimes you just gotta cull the flock.”
Mostly I hope this helps bring some peace and closure to the many thousands of people around the world who suffered for his pride and greed and hate.
And hey, Ayman al-Zawahiri. You’re next!

I can honestly say I never thought this day would come.
I have become just so incredibly cynical. Like 71 said, I want a little more proof than a press release. In the mean time,

Royal Wedding
Maybe they thought it would be the best time to attack the compound because Osama and his guards would be watching the wedding. And the Prez gave that Correspondent’s speech while all of this was going on without letting on. You can go to google maps and see the compound. It is large, no way no one knew something was going on.
Go Bruins!
+1 That's exactly what my wife said!

It is a very large compound.
But the secrecy there is admirable. No phone, no internet, burned all their trash, 16 foot walls topped with barbed wire, and a 7 foot privacy wall on their 3rd floor balcony. The city is generally considered a retirement community for officers of the Pakistani Military. I personally think it’s a situation where he never left the compound, and only a few people ever came and went. It’s not hard to see how the place could be overlooked, or not looked at at all, yet it perfectly fits with the right intelligence.
"Every day was a good day at UCLA." -Coach John Wooden
Indeed. The place was more like a prison than a mansion.
Although, having seen video from inside the complex itself, it was not lacking in furnishings, and apparently possessed satellite TV (something I doubt you’d find in death row). I think his presence their, as opposed to somewhere more discreet or defensible, had a lot to do with his health. My guess is he had a trusted doctor who was paid a significant sum to drive from Islamabad to his compound to administer to him. There’s no way he could have escaped detection in Islamabad, so he chose someplace nearby.
The most interesting question is now, did he have direct support from the Pakistani military? It’s probably impossible for him not to have insiders in his pocket, but I’m referring to tacit support as opposed to corruption. Or alternatively, did he chose that town simply due to its proximity to military academies and other parts of the Pakistani military, in the hopes that it would deter bombs/drone attacks?

All should share the glory, but more must be done before the world is safe.
What a great day for the USA and the world.
Both Obama and Bush and all of our military and intelligence services should share the credit.
May all the tyrants who threaten America and its allies understand. Your day is coming. Just ask Sadaam and Osama.
.
And let us never forgot...
the UCLA alumni that were killed on 9/11. Our 1991 men’s swim team co-captain Andy O’Grady was among those killed in the towers.
R.I.P. to them all. You finally got a small measure of justice today, but it’s not over yet.
Great Post, Nestor!!
Saw it this A.M. right after I woke up.
Hope we’ll be seeing more of you around here again as well!

God Bless USA, and Go Navy (my brother is in the Navy).
