A Gloomy Spring For UCLA Athletics' Non-Revenue Programs?

UCLA Athletics official site posted a release about "a busy weekend" for six programs including baseball, softball, tennis, women's rowing, track and field and women's water polo:

Ranked No. 24 in the nation, the UCLA baseball team opens a three-game non-conference series against Cal State Bakersfield. The Bruins (27-18) take on the Roadrunners on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans at home can follow all three games live on Gametracker or listen to a live audio broadcast at uclabruins.com. UCLA currently stands third in the Pac-10 Conference with a 14-7 league record, 1.5 games behind first place Oregon State.

The defending champion and 12th ranked UCLA softball team will look to improve on their 15-game winning streak against Oregon as they begin a three-game series against the Ducks in Eugene. The Bruins (32-15, 8-10 Pac-10) will take on the Ducks on Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. This will be the last regular season series of the year and fans at home can follow the games live on Gametracker or listen to a live audio broadcast at uclabruins.com. On Sunday, the Bruins will learn their postseason fate as ESPNU airs the NCAA Selection Show at 7 p.m. PT. NCAA Regionals run from May 20-22 at 16 campus sites around the country.

The UCLA women's water polo team makes its seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament this weekend, seeking its sixth NCAA Championship in the last seven seasons. Backed by standout seniors Priscilla Orozco and Grace Reynolds, the No. 3-seeded Bruins (24-6) open tournament action on Friday against No. 6-seeded Indiana (25-11). Game time of UCLA's first-round match on Friday is 1:30 p.m. (PT). This year's NCAA Tournament is being hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The full release is here which also has details of tourney appearances for both men and women's tennis programs.

Star-divide

The baseball team has the potential to be very good but they have been maddeningly inconsistent all season. Right when they showed some signs of life in Oregon they stumbled with two bad losses during the midweek. They should sweep this weekend.

Softball has been in a funk. Their 8-10 conference record is not much to talk about and they recently had a bad losing streak. It will be a challenge for them to defend the title.

Among other teams both tennis programs are in the tournament but they are long shots to win the title. May be golf can make a run but anything can happen in that game. The women's water polo team could make a charge but they are not the favorites. If the Bruins do not bring home any titles this year a tough season for Dan Guerrero will close on a bad note. We wonder if there is a sense of anxiety setting in at Morgan Center.

My guess is that Morgan Center folk don't feel a thing . . .

as they laugh their way to the bank.

yeah i'm sure they can poll the students somehow

and use the answer to one question to confirm that this was a successful season, and that they are, in fact, doing their jobs…

Favored?

by whom? I guess it’s moot now, but how could we be favored over Oregon?

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
