Gold Cup Final Open Thread - (a Bruin Led) United States v. Mexico
Tonight is the final match of the Gold Cup tournement, the North and Central American Soccer championship, putting the U.S. against Mexico. While games between these two squads awesome always lively, we have a couple of extra factors making tonight's action relevant for us' the March is being played at the Rose Bowl, and the American side is captained by former Bruin great Carlos Bocanegra:

On the other side of the pitch, look for Mexican star Javier Hernandez, who is coming off of a debut season with Manchester United that got the attention of Soccer fans throughout Europe, as well as the adulation ofhis homeland.
The match starts at 6PM PDT on ESPN. Let's make this a special BN open thread and cheer on not just the Yanks but the Bruin captain leading the Red, White & Blue.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Dealing with Chicharito
will be key in this game.If Chicharito gets a good serve in or shot, it could be a nightmare game. Also, Can Landon Donovan score a goal? I’ve never seen him be so hesitant to take a shot. Also, look for Altidore to be hungry after missing 2 games from a strained ankle. But if he doesn’t start also look for the surprising yet consistent Clint Dempsey to add to his goals throughout the Gold Cup.
Altidore is out.
Look for the US to start the same formation it’s used in the last two games, except with Landon in place of Sacha Kljestan.
Lineup is out
Landon does start in place of Sacha. Adu in place of Agudelo! Wow!
Programming Alert
The game is not on ESPN in the Denver area. I found it on Fox Soccer (Comcast, ch 401). Any of my neighbors and neighboring states may need to look elsewhere.

So freaking awesome
The Mexican team came out like the Trojies usually does at the Rose Bowl. Thank God we got this early goal.
I was tempted for a half second to switch over to Univision
I’m not really listening to the announcers anyways.
goooooooooooooooooal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adu/Donovan/Dempsey!!!
The key I thought was ...
How Adu was penetrating from the right flank to get it going before that sequence …
Defense playing the scoreboard
Caught way out of position. That was easy. 2-1 US.

Heh, speaking of
diamond83 Diamond Leung
Mexico’s running around out there in the Rose Bowl like they’re Pete Carroll’s wide receivers.
Mexico's captain subbed out
Need Adu to go abuse the new guy now

Bornstein is a Bruin and I love him for that
But he is shit.
Strange commercials here
Just had an ad for motorized wheelchairs, and one for CPAP parts before that. What sort of demographic do they think is watching this?

Not a good strategy
let Mexico pass to open guys inside the 18 until someone can shoot point blank. Not a good strategy at all.

Not Dempsey's best night
Mex got him off his game. Too much complaining, playing bodies and not the ball.

Bullough coaching them, maybe?
Sorry. Cheap shot.

Thanks for a fun thread folks
May be all the bad ju ju at the Rose Bowl is out of the way for good guys this season. Good night everyone.
What a game! What a mad house!
Saw one fan led away with blood out of his mouth. Not a way to watch a international game.
New scoreboards made debut. We will like them for UCLA football games.
Especially for the fans on the pressbox side since they will have a new scoreboard on the east side.
What a game!
Need the scoreboards for the UCLA games. I agree.
