UCLA Men's Golf - NCAA Championships Quarterfinal Open Thread
Having entered Thursday with a 16-stroke margin for error, the Bruin golfers needed only not to choke yesterday in order to advance to the final match play stage of the NCAA Championships. Not only did they keep up their game, the team surpassed Georgia tech for the group stage win, securing the #1 seed in the match play competition that will determine the team national championship. Patrick Cantlay continued his stellar freshman season with a second-place finish, finishing one stroke behind LSU's John Peterson for the individual national championship.
These Bruins had little time for rest, and have already begun playing their quarterfinal match against 8th seeded Duke. The match scoreboard is here, and the NCAA will be streaming a live video feed of (presumably) the later holes starting at 11am Pacific time. This is your Golf Championships open thread.
Go Bruins!

It says...
Alex Kim is up 1 through 5 holes, Tim Gornik’s up 2 through 3 holes, and the rest of the matches are all square.
Not surprising
Widegren has not been playijng his best golf this week.

Yesterday Widegren Came up Huge with his +2 Round
Was our 2nd scorer. Hopefully, he can channel a bit of that mojo on the back 9.
Can u explain the scoring?
Can u explain why when u click on the match 1 tab, it looks like we are up in 4 of the matches (each up by 1 to 2) and only down in the widegren-gornik (down by 5)?
So do we win if we get a better overall score
or if 3 of our players win their matches?
Still very close!
Up in 1
Down in 2
Tied in 2
Go Bruins!
Still really close
We are much stronger at 3-5 against Duke so we still are in good shape even though we’re down 4-1 (11-13)
(5) Down 2
(4) Down 1
(3) Down 1
(4) Down 6
(5) Up 1
Main and Figueiredo have good chances to make up a shot now.
Looks like Alex Kim and Wiedegren’s matches are pretty much over, so Duke would only need to win one more of the other three.
Not sure whose bright idea it was to force a team that led the tourney after 3 days . . .
to play a team they defeated by 15 strokes in a playoff.
Match play tends to be pretty unpredictable
as you’d usually see in the PGA
Suri
Hits the ball way left. If they can’t find it he’s lying 3 in the right rough of the 17th hole with Figuerido lying 1 in the same place
Still alive...
Suri is choking vs Figueiredo
Gregor Main is even for UCLA
Cantlay is up for UCLA
Suri
They couldn’t find the ball. Suri and Figuerido hitting from the same place in the rough yet it was Suri’s fourth shot where Figuerido is hitting 2
So
He can two putt to even the match going to the 18th

Update (14-16)
(5) DUKE POINT
(4) Down 1 – Figeurido on 17
(3) Down 1 – Main on 16
(4) DUKE POINT
(5) Up 2 – Cantlay on 15
I don't really follow NCAA Golf...
but from the looks of it, it looks like this was a major upset? Ugh…
