U$C Putting Its Lapdogs to Work: Fanning Leach to UCLA Speculations
Well, wouldn't you know it. UCLA recruiting picks up steam, and a U$C mouthpiece comes out with a coaching candidate for UCLA while we currently have a coach. It's none other than Mike Leach. Clearly these morons have done their homework and can see how well a "pirate" would fit in with the bureaucrats at the Morgan Center.
It's not the first time this rumor has been floated...stupid Trogans.

The Article Reflects Poorly On The Writer -- Not The Pirate
Like most everyone here, I am starting the season with optimism and hope. I believe we will have a season that will meet Coach’s definition of “success”. Others, here, have called it an Eye Test — that we play all out all the time to the best of our talent level.
Any mention of Leach, at this time, is divisive — which is exactly why the running dog of trogan imperialism is doing it.
Tasser10, you made me laugh with your line "… how well a “pirate” would fit in with the bureaucrats at the Morgan Center."
If the Morgan morons do not shape up and start supporting excellence in all Bruin sports as well as maximizing the student experience, I’m hoping all of us become pirates and force them to walk the plank.

The Pirate is just fine by me
There’s not doubt he was railroaded out of town by his AD and others at Texas Tech. I wouldn’t want him anywhere in the Pac-12 though! I wonder what his plans are, but some AD out there needs to man up and hire him. He could dominate the Big East, for example. Annual BCS bowls!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Overrated coach
No one scheduled softer then TTU during his time there. Pocketed 4 free wins and then would go .500 in league and was considered a genius.
Hope he lands somewhere outside of UCLA because he is no doubt entertaining.
and...
We don’t even have an opening, its CRN’s time to shine
Not to mention
UCLA admins would not touch him with a 40-foot pole.
It’s spin, pure and simple from U$C mouthpieces. They know the best argument against recruits committing (or thinking of committing) to UCLA right now is that “Rick won’t be there next year” and they thought it would be funny to suggest that they’ll be coached by a guy who will lock them in a shed.
Classy misdirection. Assholes.

As an aside,
I heard someone describe Roman Polanski as the 5 foot Pole no one would touch anything with.

Until I see
how he would do with good recruits (you try getting anyone to go to Lubbock), I won’t call him overrated. I won’t call him a genius either, but what you just described is basically all of the SEC…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Xlnt Point
Leach won with weak talent — players no one else wanted. His genius was designing an offensive system that fit the players he had. His weakness was defense — and loyalty; he kept a DC with whom he was very close for far too long.
Lubbock is, hmm, Lubbock. Flat, hot, windy — a small Texas town. I just drove through it on my way back from CA and had a good dinner at a small brew-pub. Some kids will love it. But, it’s hard to recruit there against Austin or many other college towns.
The theme of this FanShot is that it is shitty and divisive to raise the specter of CRN being replaced after this year. It is shitty to do so and somewhat unethical by a trogan hack.
I’m pleased that the tone on BN is supportive of CRN going into the year and that we’ve not seen demands in terms of wins but rather in terms of the Eye Test.
And, I think, realistically, even if the eyes blink a few times this year, CRN has two years to prove himself. He’ll get the extra year because: (1) he has an all new staff that may take more than a year to mesh and become effective; and (2) he has a strong QB and some linemen in the wings — ready to mature and play next year.

I sure hope you are wrong
If CRN mucks up another season I don’t want to see him back.
I don’t set win goals to evaluate coaches; injuries and other teams have too much to do with that. However, I do expect improvement from year to year in effort, organization, preparation, etc. When a team grows, it is very obvious. When a team does not grow and does not apply the lessons of the previous year, it is infuriating.
Watching UCLA football for the past few years has been infuriating. CRN says all the right things, but the team on the field does not appear any more competent, more organized, or more prepared from year to year. Sometimes they have a good game but they follow it up with a stinker (or vice versa). I know that Stanford was a great team, but our performance against them last year was unforgivable. The Texas win was amazing, but the two do not equal out.
I am not saying that we needed to beat both teams for me to feel good about CRN and the direction of the program. Honestly if we had lost both but played inspired and smart football I would feel much more confident about the program because of the demonstrated growth and consistency. When I watch our football team, I want to feel confident that the program is growing and improving and not feel like we throwing away more years like we did with KD.
Right now, watching a full season of Bruin football makes me feel like we are throwing away more years. Inspired games during lackluster seasons make for great stories but not for long term success.

I would have replaced CRN last year.
But, it’s this year and there is absolutely no value in looking backward in frustration or anger.
I don’t think we have any choice but to be supportive and relentlessly optimistic. In many ways, that’s not too hard for me to do because I like CRN the person a lot.
It’s time to look forward, support our coach and team, and let the season play out. If it is “successful” in the way Coach defined success, I think both you and I will be quite pleased. If it is not, we will have plenty of time, at the end of the season, to debate the best move for the future of our program.

Re Morgan Center
The problem, obviously, is that Morgan Center and the administration thinks they’re all doing a good job. The Captain of the Titanic thought he was doing a good job, too. For a while.
