What Does the Artis Commitment Mean?
Jon Gold does a nice brief analysis of how Artis fits with U.C.L.A. and Howland, and how his commitment may affect other top recruits.

Shabazz is a very, very tough call
Many people are claiming “inside” info into his recruitment, but I’ve seen few players play it as close to the vest. He and his father have both gushed about several programs, including UK, AZ, us, and I’m sure he would about Duke if given the chance. He’s said he’ll take visits, but i’m not certain how much those will sway him. In any case, the world is his oyster, and he will go wherever he feels he fits and will give him his best chance to win a championship in his one year. I believe, in both of those regards, that we are well positioned.

If he wants to invest for just one year
since he is clearly a one-and-done level talent, then U.C.L.A. is definitely the place. He may get free rein to run his own show at any school, but he will get more teaching from Howland that will translate to development and success in the NBA than from any other coach..

You're on point.
Interestingly, the least talked-about part of his game is his defense, yet he possesses superior athleticism and very long arms, so he’s built to be a fantastic defender. Here’s hoping Ben can help reel him in by making him an elite defender, to go along with his uncanny scoring ability and excellent measurables.
