Bruins Nation Pick 'Em : Week 1

The new season is upon us.  What better way to act like we know something and pick some games!  This season, we’ve decided to take our shot at picking the PAC 12 games, along with assorted games from the Top 25 and Twelve Pac. We’ll make our picks weekly and keep track of the standings.

We'll show our picks after the jump.

Star-divide

While Week 1 contains two great non-conference match-ups, Oregon v. LSU and Boise St. v. Georgia, it also has quite a few laughers on the schedule.  The panel of buffoons experts will try to beat the spread and figure out who these FCS teams are.

UC Davis @ Arizona St. - The first game of the bunch also happens to be the largest spread.  Can the Aggies keep it close in Tempe?  Freesia39 and Odysseus think so.

Montana St. @ Utah - The Norm Chow era gets off in Salt Lake City.  Once again, Odysseus picks the underdog.

TCU @ Baylor  - TCU enters Waco as 6 point favorites.  Tydides and I don't think they'll cover.  It will be fun to watch Robert Griffin III's speed against the aggressive TCU defense.

Northwestern @ Boston College - A Twelve Pac "conference game" matches up two great universities with great academic traditions located in great cities.

South Florida @ Notre Dame - The majority picks the Irish here, but I'll take USF and their team speed.

Boise St. v. Georgia - This de facto home game for UGA is a crucial opening game.  UGA hosts South Carolina next week, and Mark Richt can't afford to start 0-2 after last season's 1-4 start.

Oregon v. LSU - One of the four consensus picks, as each of us picked Oregon to best LSU, a one point favorite, in this match-up of preseason top 5 teams.  I nearly went with LSU just be different, but at the end of the day I simply don't believe that LSU will be able to score enough points to top the Ducks.

San Jose St. @ Stanford - The second consensus pick of the week involves a pair of Northern California schools.  Stanford should roll over the Spartans, but I wouldn't be surprised if the much improved San Jose St. squad beat the spread.

Minnesota @ U$C - The match-up of condiments should be an easy win for the Trogans.  Hawaii gave U$C all they could handle in last year's opener, and I look for the Gophers to do the same this year.

IIdaho St. @ Washington St. - I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a thing about Idaho St.  I do know that Washington St. looked better towards the end of the season, but the majority of the board does not think Wazzu will cover the spread.

Fresno St. @ California - The Bulldog fans are flocking to AT&T park in hopes of an upset.  Cal is favored by 10, and the board is split right down the middle on whether they will cover or not.

Sacramento St. @ Oregon St. - The Beavers look to change their history of early season defeats by scheduling an FCS squad in the home opener.  All save Freesia39 pick the Beavers to cover the 27 1/2 point spread.

Eastern Washington @ Washington - The Huskies open up as 18 point favorites against the Eagles of Eastern Washington.  Our board unanimously picked UW to roll in the last of the three consensus picks.

Northern Arizona v. Arizona - A near consensus pick as only Nestor and Freesia39 picked Northern Arizona to cover the spread.

Colorado @ Hawaii - Colorado takes an early season trip to the islands and plays the underdog role against a solid Hawaii team.  The 6-4 majority of the board picked the Warriors to cover, but I wasn't one of them.

UCLA @ Houston - The final consensus pick of the week.  We all pick the Bruins to win their opener as road underdogs against a talented Houston squad.
