BN Gameday: San Jose St. Pre-Game Thread

Michigan and Notre Dame are showing off new Adidas uniforms tonight. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Our kickoff is around 7:00 p.m. PST and broadcast on FSN, which gives us a long day of anticipation. Our game thread is going to go up around 6:30 p.m. PST.

What better way to spend the day than catching a slate of college football?  In early action, the Beavers traveled to Madison to get destroyed by play the Badgers, with Wisconsin's 35-0 shutout ending just moments ago.  Ohio State's traditional in-state cream puff game has not gone as planned, as Toledo is taking the Buckeyes to the wire.  In the main afternoon games, Alabama squares off against Penn St. at 12:30 p.m., while Oregon and TCU both look to rebound off their upset losses at the same time against Nevada and Air Force, respectively.  South Carolina plays Georgia at 1:30 p.m., and BYU travels to Austin to take on the Longhorns.  Of course, how can miss Michigan's first ever night game as they host Notre Dame at 5:00 p.m.

If you haven't had a chance, take a look at our BN pick'em thread here.  You can also check out our San Jose St. preview here and here.

So if you are watching other games today, share your quick takes, observations or pre game nervous musings, here is our open thread. Have fun.

Go Bruins!

Last minute changes to plans = I can go to the game! I figure I can get GA tix if nothing else… :) Sounds like I’ll need some cool weather clothes too. 20% chance of rain HT peggysue.

Just Have Finished Suffering...

Watching my alma mater, Iowa, go down to in-state rival Iowa State. The ONLY thing that is going to make me feel better is if we totally wipe out San Jose St. tonight.

Have been checking out the Iowa message boards. Not a happy time in Hawkeyeland right about now…

So I've been thinking it would be cool

…to catch a home game at each of the celebrated college stadiums. Go see ND in South Bend, UMich at the Big House, etc. Probably start with Michigan since we put a kid through school there and maybe she could get us tickets. What other stadiums should be on the bucket list?

by bruinchick on Sep 10, 2011 3:30 PM PDT reply actions

Camp Randall In Mad-Town

Have been there a few times, once when our Bruins were there (in ’82; a 51-26 win) and for two Iowa-Wisconny games. Fantastic town to party and soak up the college atmosphere. And the 5th quarter after the game is quite a sight.

Have always wanted to go to the Big House in Ann Arbor.

TD Jesus was super cool. Would have been even better had we not blown it in the last :27 seconds….

I bet Longhorns stadium would be cool, too.

Must be an agreement w/ the conferences

Announcers and game analysts always understate an athlete’s legal problems. It’s very frustrating. Just reinforces the notion that as long as you can perform, you can do whatever you please.

Going into tonight

We need to be honest with ourselves.. Even if UCLA loses all of its games this year, Ricky should not be fired. He’s at least a good recruiter and should be given some more time to develop and use the talent. Besides, it’s not like UCLA football is going to attract a Nick Saban or Les Miles.

This is one of the rare reasons

I like being two time zones away from LA. As much as it sucks watching games that don’t end until waaay after midnight, it’s a whole lot easier to just watch a game through when my son’s already asleep. Though I record day games to watch at night anyway, it sucks not being able to keep track of scores easily that way. Can’t wait for the game!

That new Minnesota Head Coach Jerry Kill suffered a seizure towards the end of their game against New Mexico State. Sounds like he’s going to be okay, though. Sounds as if it were the heat up here today and dehydration.

In Utah

There has already been lot of grumbling about Chow’s offense. And we are just in second week.

by Nestor on Sep 10, 2011 4:46 PM PDT reply actions

As a Chow Supporter

I have to admit our O was sooo much better last week. The play calling and execution were so much more dynamic.

At the time, I was sorry to see him go. But, I was wrong. It was a very good move. With the new O staff developing the pistol portion of our O in a thoughtful and knowing way, I think we are in for an exciting season on that side of the ball. Of course, we will be tested by better D’s once we get to conference, but just the play calling is exciting.

Now, to start using 4th downs …

can't have it both ways

either you think he’s a bum and Utah’s bad offensive plays show it; or you think he’s a good coach who should have done better last year, and Utah’s good offensive plays show it. Arguing it both ways is disingenuous.

Our coaching staff did not work out last year, for whatever reason; CNC was willing to go away from his experience to install the pistol, and he has been classy since departure. Why the vitriol?
