It's Saturday, which means it's time for some Bruin football. Our game doesn't get underway until 7:00 p.m. PST at the Rose Bowl. The pre-game watching thread will go up in an hour or so, so stay tuned. Today's opponent will be the San Jose State Spartans, giving the Bruins a chance to bounce back after a close loss to Case Keenum and the Cougars in Houston.
Before we get to the pre-game thread, let's take a look at some of the bits and pieces of football news from around the UCLA-iverse:
- Starting with football recruiting news, ESPN is reporting that UCLA is tracking Monrovia H.S. defensive lineman Ellis McCarthy, a five-star recruit that Scout has ranked as the #4 defensive tackle in the nation. He'd be a major get for Neuheisel (assuming Rick can keep his job after this season) and would be an excellent addition to an already deep interior defensive line.
- Turning to today's game, Greg Beacham at the San Jose Mercury News has preview of the matchup, noting that UCLA needs a "big win" over a San Jose State squad that was massacred by Stanford, 57-3. While noting UCLA should be favored to win, he notes that the Spartans are fired up for their first game on football's hallowed ground, the Rose Bowl. If Neuheisel doesn't have his guys ready to play, it could be a not-very-pleasant start as the Spartans will certainly come out flying with a lot of energy.
Those are your pre-game Bruin Bites. Sit tight and the pre-game thread will be up soon. If you can't make it to Pasadena today, we have all the latest information on where to watch the game with fellow Bruins here. If you haven't done so already, make sure you get your pre-game guesses in before kick-off at 7 p.m.
Let's get to it. Enjoy your Saturday full of college football action.
