Frank Beamer is one of the best coaches in college football. He earned his 200th win yesterday as the head coach of Virginia Tech, as the 11th ranked Hokies "grided out" a 17-10 win over East Carolina Pirates. It was an extremely sloppy game for the usually fundamentally sound Hokies.
So I found this post game comment from Coach Beamer very interesting.Note East Carolina is no San Jose State. They are a pretty solid team that almost upset the real USC last weekend with a very talented QB. From the Virginian Pilot (emphasis mine):
Before he took questions from the media, Frank Beamer quietly said, "I apologize for our team."
"Disappointed," is how he described himself.
His team's eight first-half penalties.
The interception in the end zone.
The 30-yard punt that set up East Carolina's only touchdown.
The missed field goal.
A couple of dropped passes.
"That's not Virginia Tech," Beamer said.
Don't think I have to add anything to that excerpt here this Sunday.
I think you all get the point of this little fanpost.
