Unhappy w Rose Bowl "Improvements"? Contact the RBOC Now
Ahhh, the return of UCLA football.
The play of our team has been discussed and dissected six ways to Sunday. What I want to talk about is the new improvements at the Rose Bowl, specifically the new video board.
As a long-time season ticket holder I was looking forward to seeing the first round of improvements at the Rose Bowl. Sure, it is a very historic venue, but some updating was needed.
I can say that the new video board is very impressive. The clarity of the picture is amazing. But, as impressive at it is, it is still lacking. There is now no indication on the North end of the Rose Bowl as the current game relevant statistics such as down and distance, score, quarter, and time left. Nothing.
If you sit off of tunnel 2 as we do, row 16, you need to turn to look at the scoreboard at the South end or turn to look behind you to see the new scoreboard on the East side. What is worse is that we could barely read the titles of the various data items on the south scoreboard from our seats as the titles are not lit in any matter. No way anyone from the North end could read them.
Is complaining about having to turn my head to read the scoreboard being overly critical, perhaps. However, if you're spending the kind of money that the Rose Bowl Operating Company(RBOC) is then you would think some thought would have gone into the overall guest experience. Not just what the future suite buyers will want to see. While we may no be big ballers with a suite, we are 4 chumps with season tickets going on 20 years and faithfully support what has become a lackluster product.
So, perhaps some of you that were there against San Jose State are feeling the same way. Maybe not. But if you do, you may want to use the RBOC Contact page to let them know how you feel about it. Sure, you'll probably get a canned response, but you'll get a response.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

We need to address these concerns to the Rose Bowl
operating committee, UCLA, and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, who have influence and representatives with the Rose Bowl Board of Directors.
Good work, seernst
Telemachus posted some pics in a fanpost last week, and many comments in the thread shared your concerns.
Your inclusion of the link to the RBOC Contact page is a very helpful addition for everyone. Hopefully, they will listen to you and the other Bruins fans and address your concerns.

I agree.
I sit in Sec. 1 and now I have to turn my head to find out how many yards are needed for the first. The big screen looks awesome, but why couldn’t they put a score board right next to it.
It can easily design it to do so.
They have that for the soccer game. So it would not be new for the Rose Bowl people.
I could be wrong....
but it looked to me like they are supposed to add something on top of the new video board. I’m assuming it will be something like the down and distance etc. Again it could just be wishful thinking.
they could use the full screen most of the time,
ever so often show it like this: side panel for each team

please send e-mail to UCLA and Rose Bowl.
The same videoboard used for the 2011 Gold Cup

They can do the same for football games with side panels.
Two things
1) Thanks seernst for giving us the contacts because this does need to be fixed. You think they would have tested this out beforehand and figured it out, but maybe not. Either way, it needs to be fixed and we should email them until they do.
2) I think there’s going to be some nice framing and sponsorships and other nice things around the scoreboard when the renovation is complete and maybe the more basic stuff like score and yards to gain will be there? It’s possible and I think that would actually be the best solution, but there’s no excuse for not putting it on the scoreboard for this one interim season.
