[Updated] No Pac-12 Expansion For The Present

At 8:10 p.m. PDT, Andy Katz of ESPN reported that there will be no expansion of the PAC-12. He named no sources, so the official word has not yet come from Larry Scott or the conference AD's or Presidents. Burnt Orange Nation is quoting Scott who confirms the ESPN report. Stay tuned.

The official release
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.— In light of the widespread speculation about potential scenarios for Conference re-alignment, the Pac-12 Presidents and Chancellors have affirmed their decision to remain a 12-team conference. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said, "after careful review we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference. While we have great respect for all of the institutions that have contacted us, and certain expansion proposals were financially attractive, we have a strong conference structure and culture of equality that we are committed to preserve. With new landmark TV agreements and plans to launch our innovative television networks, we are going to focus solely on these great assets, our strong heritage and the bright future in front of us.""

Source here. I can’t seem to find it directly on the Pac site, but it’s presented on the CBS Sports blog I found it on (among others) as a press release, so as such I’ve quoted it here in full.

Interesting

I wonder if this will either:
1. Help preserve the Big 12.
2. Force the Big 12 members that were potentially seeking admittance into the Pac-12 to look elsewhere. Not sure why the B10 would say no to Kansas, K-state, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State if they solicited it.

Brother Fox

Why not go for a 68 team conference? It works great for the NCAA basketball playoffs.

Think of the dollars.
