I couldn't believe the above subtitle when I read it on page 2 of Thursday's L.A. Times. The article was written by T.J. Simers under the heading "Thinking higher, not fire" I don't subscribe to the Times. My wife was shocked when she saw the sports page at a friend's house and knew I would be interested. So she brought the sports page home late this evening. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I jumped right away, a few minutes ago, to the Bruins Nation site to see what others were thinking. Wow, I couldn't believe nothing was mentioned about that article. Did I somehow miss it? I am really incensed about what I read. I have never left a fan post before and know there are rules to follow and I hope I am not violating any. But I don't have the expertise and time (I have to leave quickly) to somehow post the article for your review. If it is permitted maybe someone else could.
I thought the article by Simers was an April Fool's joke. I looked more closely at the article and the date on the paper, Sept. 22, 2011. I thought that some of the Times writers were not respected by bloggers on the Bruins Nation website. But is Simers one of them? Here was Simers apparently criticizing Guerrero. Guerrero remarked in the article that " . . . donors are still hanging with him." Wow (my reaction)! Get this, Simers asked Guerrero, "Does he feel any heat? Guerrero says, "No." My comment, I couldn't believe that. Guerrero also said, "I think this team can do it," and Simers remarked, ". . . and interesting that his bio (Guerrero's) mentions nothing about his being a dreamer."
Guerrero also remarked, "When I started here our athletic budget was $42 million: it's $66 million today. We get like $2.5 million from the university in student fees, and that's it . The rest of the money is generated through donations, sponsorships, TV revenue NCAA revenue sharing and gate receipts." I don't know what portion of that is donations, but I can't believe donations aren't down.
There are a lot more tid bits in the article. Again, if permitted, I hope someone can post the article for those unable to get to it. I would be interested in reading your comments..
