UCLA Basketball Interview with Tyler Lamb
The guys at Bruin Ball have a nice interview with Tyler Lamb (free registration required). And it highlights some good points about next year about Lamb and the team.
While we have heard stories of how hard Reeves Nelson and Zeek Jones have worked this offseason, there were concerns as Lamb was not around campus as much. However, while not around campus as much as some of the other guys was working out hard on his game at home.
Tyler Lamb: Working on my overall strength and quickness, and just on my body overall. I've been shooting a lot of jump shots every day. Jumps shots off the dribble, jump shots off the kick out, so all types of game related things that I'll have to do during the game.
Lamb was one of the better defenders on the team, arguably second only to Malcolm Lee but he was also the worst outside shooter on the team. It is good to hear Lamb practicing his jump shot, which even Lamb acknowledge he had a problem.
Everybody can always have better technique, but it was mainly a confidence thing, I'd say. My first jump shots weren't going in and I just kind of got in my head and it spun the wrong way for the season.
More after the jump.
While it is just an interview, Lamb is starting to sound like a Ben Ball Warrior with his focus on D first and more importantly the team is sounding ready. This off season a lot of the focus has been on 2012-13 but we should not forget we have a hungry team already here.
I know definitely, as a team, the goal is to win the Pac-12 Championship and make a good run in the NCAA Tournament. Individually, I want to be a starter. I want to make the 1st Team All-Pac-12 Defensive Team and make one of the Pac-12 Teams offensively. I set myself to high standards.
Go Bruins!

Bravo to all those Bruins working on their game this summer.
And while it’s a shame that Malcolm Lee and Tyler Hioneycutt wasted this year sitting out the NBA lockout when CBH could have improved their game, and draft chances, too, that was something they knew about going in.
How great is it to hear...
that his first stated goal is to make the Pac 12 All Defensive team. I love that.

Agree
I think in the later part of the year, the players really bought in to CBH style of good defense leads to easy offense. I hope that carries over to the start of this year. Really hope this team plays to its potential. If they can, I think a Pac-12 title is accessible.

I liked that too.
Good sign as he is fighting for Lee’s job, not a bad defender.
Tyler's goals are very reasonable
Not too inflated; just about right.
I’m excited about Tyler. Really liked what I saw last year. Kid can finish creatively and athletically. Has a great pump fake, but now he needs to hit that J more consistently. Moves his feet on defense and works very hard. Kind of reminds me of Malcolm, mix of athleticism and effort on D. Malcolm’s J was never really stellar in 3 years at UCLA. Let’s hope Lamb shows better improvement.
