Around SBN: The MMA Hour Is Back

Interesting exchange found on Twitter

I happen to only follow two current UCLA athletes on Twitter, and saw an interesting conversation back and forth today between both of them.  This might happen all the time between different players, but this one seemed telling in several ways. I thought it was worth passing along.

(Sorry, I don't know how to embed Twitter posts the cool way, so this will be a cut-and-paste job; if anyone wants to clean it up, the tweets can be found in the individual players' profiles.)

Joseph Fauria  I think  didn't throw to me last week cuz he secretly wanted to get 1k followers b4 I did. Cmon Mu Fasa! 9 hours ago

Richard Brehaut  @   Nertha Grande! You know you're my boy. Was there even one call where you were involved in my read?   9 hours ago

Joseph Fauria  @   Zero calls for Grande. However I'm about to take it out on some Cardinal.  9 hours ago

Richard Brehaut  @   I'm with that!  9 hours ago

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Remind Anyone Of CTS?

Forgetting he had White sitting on the bench?

Not one call to involve a guy who is, perhaps, your biggest impact player.

Oh, how I hate to say this but, I feel like I am back in CTS Land OR maybe a place that is even worse.

Dinged up.

Neu was on Petros and Money yesterday and said that Joe had gotten dinged up in the Texas game and was only at about 60%. He also said he thought he’d be at 100% against Stanford. Probably a big part of why he wasn’t as integral a part of the offense as he should be.

Go Bruins!

And, never mentioned until now?

And, not mentioned in the Tweets?

RN knows how to give a pre-game injury list, take a look at today’s front page.

Hmm. Do I buy this?

Was Manny White injured, too? And, will CTS tell us that next week?

Was Franklin injured when he sat out a big chunk of the sc game last year?

I really hate being this skeptical. I have lapsed back to the CTS reign of error.

I believe it

if it’s not an injury that required him to miss practice time and automatically inform the press that he’s dinged up, why say anything? Force the opponent to game plan for him.

Why Was Fauria On the Field?

Healthy enough to be on the field not healthy enough to throw to?

A decoy?

Sorry, I can’t buy it.

If he’s not healthy enough to throw to, you play Harkey who — the pundits tell us — is a better blocker. (Although I question that, too.)

I'm not claiming

that he wasn’t healthy enough to be thrown to, but when you only throw 11 times…not everyone will get their number called. And since gameplanning goes on throughout the week, if he was relatively more dinged up on Tuesday, the emphasis on the passing game in practice last week may not have been placed on him.

Also, if he’s such a threatening mismatch that the fans are up in arms over his 0 pass targets last week, then yes, he can probably also function as a decoy whenever he’s on the field. You still have to account for him.

by Chris09 on Sep 28, 2011 1:12 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with SJH

I don’t buy it. Not for a second. If he’s “dinged up” and “60%” against the other conference door mat, then don’t play him. Let him get healed and be 100% for the conference elite team.

I can’t believe that anyone, and that includes the CIA and KGB and all the other spy organizations, could keep the secret of your star tight end being “dinged up” and “60%.” Someone, somewhere, would have spilled the beans.

Or to put it another way, I think CTSS just made that up to cover his behind. Sorry, CTSS, but you lost me with this excuse.

I can't read this anymore

I’m going back to reading about local baseball here in Tampa.

A side note

Does anyone know what “GammaSig” means? The only thing I could find was a service sorority, but that doesn’t seem to make sense.

Not really sure

They are both in Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Their chapter i believe is Cal-Delta and they were only on the first round of the alphabet a few years ago to describe their pledge classes so they wouldn’t be up to Gamma Sigma yet.

Now I understand why RN hates RB!!!

RN was a Sigma Nu and RB is a SAE. Frat rivalry taken too far…

lol

BTW … iirc Aikman was an SAE.

Sickening.

Perhaps out biggest mismatch against OSU’s young secondary and he’s not even involved in one read?

EPIC FAIL.

Conversely . . .

. . . look at the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, who lined up their tight end (Jermichael Finley) in the slot and out side to create MISMATACHES (does anyone at UCLA know that that means??) and the guy caught 3 TDS!!!!!!

No wonder Fauria was angry. He should be.

He needs to be intimately involved this weekend.

by orlandobruin on Sep 27, 2011 11:50 AM PDT up reply actions

This angers and frustrates fans, of course

But look how it affects the players themselves. They know they are being ignored and misused even after busting their butts in spring and fall camps to get recognition of their talent and effort.

WTF is going on? How can any coach, let alone PNTL, ignore a talented 6’8" tight end, the qb’s best friend in any passing offense?

We are lucky these players even continue to try. If it continues another game, one wonders. Will they just quit on him or actually mutiny?

Unbelievable.

Interesting that they did this in a public forum

It’s not like they don’t spend a few hours together every day at football activities/practice. Maybe a bit of politicking?

Why?

Sometimes I think that kids don’t understand the exposure to which their tweets ad FB posts are subjected.

And, then, sometimes I think they do.

If this fits the latter category, it may be a form of protest or speaking out. And, if that’s true, RB is as close to a leader as we have on this team and Fauria is a passionate guy.

Finally, I think Fauria knows about the scrutiny given tweets. Didn’t his tweet on Chow cause a stir? Hard to see this as a mistake.

I don't think it was a mistake either.

Not at all.
