Injury Update(s): Prince w Concussion/Sprained Shoulder, Love Out for 2 Wks

First, here is the latest on Kevin Prince from Peter Yoon:

UCLA Bruins quarterback Kevin Prince, who left Saturday's 38-34 loss to Houston with a concussion, also has a mild sprain in the AC joint of his right shoulder and his status for next weekend's game against San Jose State is questionable, coach Rick Neuheisel said Sunday.

Prince landed hard on his shoulder and head at the end of a four-yard run Saturday at Houston. He said he blacked out momentarily and did not play the rest of the game. Trainers briefly attended to his shoulder on the sideline, but the extent of the injury was discovered after the team returned home.

"The concussion cleared last night and he has no lingering effects," Neuheisel said. "There will be a protocol, but they think that that portion of the injury he'll be fine by Saturday. The question then will be the shoulder."

Neuheisel added that he will have to see "how much" Prince can practice. It appears Brett Hundley would prepared as the "no. 2" QB if Prince cannot go. This situation alone makes this upcoming Saturday's game interesting. I am rooting for Brehaut to continue to break lose and make an emphatic case for the starting QB position against San Jose State.

Star-divide

Meanwhile, per Gold, "senior linebacker Glenn Love has a dislocated shoulder and would be out "a couple of weeks."" That's tough luck for Gold but it also means Jordan Zumwalt will have a shot in stepping in perhaps grabbing hold of the starting sport.

PS

by “I am rooting for Brehaut to continue to break lose and make an emphatic case for the starting QB position against Houston”, did you mean San Jose?

I understand a coach has to speak diplomatically

But, why is it even a question? Due to the concussion alone, KP should be out for 1-2 weeks. Therefore to be truly diligent, you have to give back up snaps to the next guy on the depth chart.

Why is The Rick even entertaining thoughts of when Prince can be back? Is this part of the “UCLA culture” that damns us to mediocrity?

Brehaut supporter

I have been in Brehaut’s corner since the end of last season, but I believe the team is better if KP is a strong, well prepared backup, ready to take the reins if Brehaut is not running the offense effectively or if he is injured. KP’s return has nothing to do with mediocrity. By the way, have either Brehaut or Prince earned their BN initials yet?

No

They would have to win at least the South Division and beat Southern Cal. We can talk then.

As far as I am concerned, it's Brehaut's job until Prince can step up

in game conditions and take it away. I love KP, but Brehaut has proven that he can do the job.
Very sorry to hear about Love, I was really looking forward to seeing what he could do this season.
