Please, Not Mike Nolan
For what it's worth, my view is that Jim Mora is heading in the right direction, at least so far. However, the suggestion that Mike Nolan may be under consideration as defensive coordinator appalled me. I've been a 49er fan for decades, and I saw the results of Nolan's leadership. In my opinion, Mora could not make a more unenlightened choice than Mike Nolan. If Nolan's name gains prominence, I'm ready to start an "anybody but Nolan" movement. Go Bruins.

I am
admittedly not a dolphins fan or a 49ers fan but has the defense been a problem? Seems to me that Nolan was not a good HC but as a DC with Denver he did a great job turning around a PATHETIC (to say the least) defense before leaving for Miami, and has really improved Miami’s defense as well if I’m not mistaken

Your opinion would probably carry more weight if you put this in a fanpost and supported it with some numbers or even personal experience and things you have seen with your own eyes.
As it is…you know…your opinion as a long-suffering fan will just be that, another voice among hundreds…I’d love to know why you don’t think Nolan would be good (not that I’m supporting him, I have no idea).
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
A lot of very good coordinators make for awful head coaches
Mike Nolan is one of them. Yes please.

LOL.
I’ve been saying this for years!
Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing. ~ Vince Lombardi
Elite NFL DC
very awful HC
there’s a difference
"A legend is an old man with a cane known for what he used to do. I'm still doing it." Miles Davis
Exactly
Look at what Wade Phillips did the Houston’s D this year after a mediocre tenure in Dallas. There’s a long list of elite NFL coordinators who simply weren’t great at managing a team.
It really is two very different skill sets. One involves teaching a very specific skill set. Another involves managing day to day operations, personnel decisions that upset players, managing egos, setting overall strategy, etc.
As a longtime 49ers fan
I am not sure I will have any issues with this. Nolan is a very good NFL DC. He is just a terrible head coach. The question for me is whether he can be a good DL coach as well.
Being able to coach up the D-line was my first concern
My 2nd concern was whether or not he would wear a full suit on the sidelines on gameday
Dump Dan!

I'm not sure what his reputation as a DL coach is
but he has coached them before, as well as linebackers.

Bad head coach
Nolan was a bad head coach, there is no argument there. But there are tons of guys who were bad head coaches but great DC/OC. Just look at Wade Phillips this year with the Texans. Terrible head coach but a great DC.
Some of the very best NFL DCs
including Wade Phillips, Mike Nolan, Steve Spagnuolo, Richie Petitbon, Dave Wannstedt, Steve Spagnuolo, Romeo Crennel, Bill Arnsparger, Dick LeBeau, Marvin Lewis, and Bud Carson failed miserably as a Head Coach. There probably isn’t a major football program in the country that wouldn’t give up an appendage to have any one of those men as their DC. Heck, we’d even throw in DG’s head to get one of them.
