UCLA landed WR/RB a verbal commitment from Fabian Moreau this morning per Scout. At 6'0 165 lbs., he really fits the mold for an inside slot receiver that OC Noel Mazzone loves to utilize. 8Clap!!!

Welcome aboard Fabian

Very good speed (4.38). Several places that he could be utilized. Another good get by the coaching staff.

Been a Bruin since birth

Guy's dream school was Oregon very recently.

Very intriguing pickup, especially if Mora plays him unlike the last ten years.

He has bulked up

and weighs in at 185lbs now, without any speed loss. With Owens, we now have two very talented, very fast and very dangerous receivers in the slot. Good get.

We have 17

scholarships to give, with 26 commits. This ought to be interesting to see how the entire herd is culled.

Mora is going to cut the fat from the current roster

And I wouldn’t be surprised to see some guys decommit.

i think we have 20 now

since the 3 guys were dismissed from the team last week

I am not really a fan of the "Star" system...

But if 185 ibs. player who can motor at 4.38 is only a 2 star, what makes a five star? I know stars aren’t a barometer of how they will perform at NCAA level but why only 2 stars for this guy?

I'm not calling the kid a liar.

But he sure as hell doesn’t look like a 4.38 on his tape.
Maybe a 4.5 type.
He’s shifty and looks like he has a great stride. Good instincts.

I worry a little when a kid is from such a big part of Florida and doesn’t have offers from any of the schools in Florida.

Hope he works out great though.

I was right.

Ran a 4.52 on electronic time at the Under Armour Combine.

There’s the 40 time.

With a 32 inch vertical, not 36.

I fibbed in my recruiting video too. Have to do it.

Rivals give him 3 stars

and lists a 33" vertical leap, with a hand held 4.4/40 time. Watching his film, he runs a bit high with long, smooth strides and very deceptive speed. Excellent hands, fluidly elusive in space; he made a whole lot of defenders look foolish. Even with the more accurate 4.5/40, he seems to have no problem outrunning Broward County HS defenders. He is Mazzone’s kind of slot player.

I thought the same thing.

His running mechanics look a bit off. A track coach might be able to get a little more speed out of him.

An Oregon Take

This from theduckstopshere.com:

Fabian Moreau continues to think of Oregon as his dream school, and with the results he’s producing in Broward County, Florida football, he’s doing everything he can to achieve his dream. Young Moreau patterns his game after LaMichael James, and he watched Thursday’s victory over Cal with interest. Noting the great performances by James and freshman De’Anthony Thomas, he said, “Yes sir, great game by both of them. I feel like I would fit in the offense pretty well! I love the way they spread the ball around and the fast tempo is exciting . Go ducks!”

But Fabian has been doing some LMJ and Black Momba work of his own. Call him the “Florida Coral Snake” after these numbers:

His stats in game four: 17 carries 205 yards 3 Tds and 1 catch 20 yards 1 TD

His season stats through four games: Team record 4-0, 73 touches ( carries and receptions) 800 yards 13 TDs

Moreau’s chances to make the Duck roster are still limited. Oregon is pursuing some top running backs around the country like Byron Marshall of San Jose and Keith Marshall of Raleigh, North Carolina. Assuming LaMichael James leaves early for the NFL they’ll have one running back slot open, and with a small recruiting class (they’re only graduating 11 scholarship seniors, plus attrition and the possibility of James and Harris leaving for the NFL, figure 18 to scholarships) the Ducks’ coaching staff will have to be selective in their offers. There’s even the possibility of a loss of two to five scholarships for a three-year period from the pending NCAA investigation.

Still, in Moreau, you have a kid with a great attitude and upside, plus tremendous desire. In his highlights he shows good hands, a good burst and a nose for the end zone. He’s a north-south runner, very efficient in his cuts, dangerous in the open field. Fabian’s made a lot of big plays against good competition in South Florida, and interest in him is picking up. He gained 20 pounds of muscle since his junior year. The recruiting services still rate him as a two-star prospect, but they’ve missed on kids before, particularly kids who bloom late. One thing to consider is his potential as a slot receiver.

This recruiting class is a little crazy

We have 26 guys now. I wonder how many decommits we’re going to have. I also wonder how many guys are going to be transferring etc, this off-season. I imagine it will be busy.
