Call & Email Chancellor Block Today: Guerrero Must Go Now
Bumped. This post went up on January 23rd after the collapse of Ben Howland's joke program on the Oregon trail. The season has only gotten worse since then. Time to ratchet up the pressure by contacting the Chancellor and demanding resignation of Dan Guerrero. Contact information below. As always, make sure to be respectful when you call or email Block's office. Fire away. GO BRUINS. - BN Eds.
Pauley renovation, falling donations, Student seating, a decade of Football misery, Coach Caldwell, Chianti cruises, Baseball facilities, non-communication, arrogance without cause, collateral damage to academic fundraising.
Those are only some of the lowlights of Dan Guerrero's mismanagement of Bruin athletics. Sadly, we can now add to his trash pile the erosion of our most storied and treasured tradition, U.C.L.A. Basketball.
This weekend's collapse against two barely average teams in Oregon and Oregon State shows me that Coach Howland has lost this team and this program. He has failed to bring in the right kind of players for his system, and then has shown little flexibility to adapt to the players he did bring in. Forget the NCAA Tournament. We are a game away from falling into the first day play-in games in our own conference tournament.
I see no light at the end of this tunnel. The only thing less palatable than watching the further collapse of Bruin Basketball is the thought of Chianti Dan remaining in a position to do something about it. So time to light up the phone lines and email inboxes again:

Keep your message concise, passionate, and professional.
Remind the Chancellor that our University is costing itself millions in donations currently, and multi-millions in future support by losing the current generation of fans. Remind the Chancellor that we are his constituents. Remind the Chancellor that the U.C.L.A. brand is becoming a joke under his watch.
It is totally unacceptable that Dan Guerrero is still bilking the state of California for nearly $700K a year while doing an utterly terrible job. Though it was discouraging that our outcry after the football season did not result in change, we do know that the pressure on Guerreror from the admin did increase. Now, in the midst of the train wreck that is our basketball program, we must further step up our pressure and finish the job. Call on the Chancellor to replace our Athletic Director with someone who is competent to rebuild our football and basketball programs.
Don't let the momentum lag. Keep calling and keep writing until Guerrerror is replaced.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

"We are a game away from not going to our own conference tournament."
How many teams go? Is it really only the top 8?
My bad
Was thinking of when the last 2 teams didn’t go. I think all 12 will be included in the tournament, but we’ll get to be in the “play-in” games on the first day of the 4 day tournament.
I’ll edit the post above.

"We are a game away from falling into the first day play-in games in our own conference tournament."
We’re actually already in them. Only the top four teams get a bye from the first day. Bottom eight play for the last four quarterfinal spots.

Argh!
Half corrected. Curses on you, KP. Everyone, just read what KP’s saying. You’ll get it.

GBruin- great post
I will definitely continue my respectful pestering. Thanks for the reminder.
We may not get the change we want with our action (I don’t trust Block), but it is certainly true that we won’t get any change by sitting on our hands.
Thanks again.
Unfortunately most of the premium members at another site
have rallied around Dan and are donating to the Morgan Center again, in money supposedly allocated to football. Of course, since most of the budget is discresionary, where you donate is irrelevent, as the Morgan Center can just reduce the discretionary budget for football.
Its sort of like the state govt. They say the lottery proceeds will benefit schools, and it does, but then the redirect money that was going to schools before to some other project, leaving schools with only a fractional increase.
its amazing to me a good recruting class by Mora takes all the heat off of Dan. We truly do get what we deserve as bruins.

I saw that thread
It was interesting. I am sympathetic to the argument of need to support Mora’s efforts. What was not clear to me is how the online platform they shared would ensure that money contributed would be specifically allocated for football. My understanding is anything contributed to Wooden Fund will just help the AD in general. It will not necessarily go directly to the football program. So despite the best intentions, that effort will most likely not accomplish the objective they were looking to meet.
They keep saying now is not the time to target replacing Dan
but that time seems to never come….

Right
It should be interesting to see how the UCLA community in general reacts to the hoops boondoggle, which is a complete mess.
I often wonder who are the type of people the Chancellor communicates with in alumni events. Does he even go to alumni events which are attended by wired in/plugged in alums who have a good grasp on the pathetic situation around our programs?
It is pretty shocking to see how many Bruin alums are still in total denial about the state of the hoops program.
One amend
It looks like the Wooden Fund website does have functionalities that allow folks to specify their donations to a particular program. However, given the track record of this AD, I am not sure how much comfort a donor can really take in the notion that the officials there will honor that specific commitment and not move the funds around to address their screwups.
I would disagree.
Morgan Center collects about $70M a year in revenue of which football brings in $20M but only costs $10M.
If an additional $1m is raised for football, who is to say the $10M currently allocated from general revenue doesn’t get decreased from $10M to $9.5M, effectively reducing your contribution to 50% football, 50% other?
The fact is football already generates enough revenue by itself to pay for itself to be run at a very high level. It is subsidizing the rest of the athletic department that is the cost burden.

My numbers are hypotheticals by the way
I don’t know football revenue or amount spent on football. Just giving an example.

I think we actually agree here
I didn’t word my comment the way I wanted to now that I reread it. I agree with you on this.
They are truly short-sighted......
….hard to believe that we were educated at the same school. If they support DG then they can’t bitch and complain about the decline of our revenue generating sports at UCLA. These people are pathetic.
Like neubs and howlers….a name for these types of alums may be required like Dan’s Dipshits, Danos, Danots, etc.
Apathetic and weak.
Word
Loser Bruins. 6-6 was a lot of fun! Herp Derp! Let’s give him another year! We’re going to miss the tournament? Well let’s talk about how much fun those 3 Final Fours were way back when! Herp Derp! Dan Guerrero is the man behind our women’s volleyball national championship, “what’s wrong with Dan and his straps?” Loser Bruins make me so angry. Yet these are the guys who will say “hey we’re winning again! Thanks Dan!”
Dump Dan!

I am DONE
If idiots want to give to this lame decade of below average results I say it is time to TAKE OUT AN AD. They can give but we can publish the TRUTH about what a disgrace Dan has been. Money can’t erase a good ole public bashing. As if losing to USC 50 -0 along with a joke of a basketball team isn’t PR enough.

For current UCLA students only:
You may have a chance to speak with the chancellor for 10 minutes only… obviously it must be a very well-planned and well-prepared meeting.

UCLA Office of the Chancellor
Dear Students:
I have set aside time from 3:00–4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, to meet in my office with individual students. I hope to see a mix of students representing a broad spectrum of interests and concerns. I want to hear your views and share some of mine with you.
Each meeting will last 10 minutes. I apologize that we cannot meet longer, but I want to accommodate as many students as possible within the hour. Please note that I periodically have breakfast with students on the Hill, and I try to attend as many student events as I can.
As in the past, any registered student may request an appointment during the above office hour; just respond to this e-mail. We will accept requests until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, and they will be entered into a drawing. Students whose requests are selected will be notified shortly thereafter. Please include your student ID number in your request.
I look forward to seeing you and talking with you.
Sincerely,
Gene D. Block
Chancellor

This is the end is really sad.
Only one hour of access split between 6 students?
I wonder if a student must submit his/her topic of concern to be eligible.
I’d hate to think this is akin to Guerrero’s oh-so-insightful Q&A on his blog newsletter.
greg in denver, U.C.L.A. guy for life - BruinsNation.com
I tried several times when I was an undergrad to set up an appointment
Its akin to Dan’s Q&A session. You are absolutely right gbruin. At the end of the day, he holds “office hours” with “students.” I never received any type of response from him telling me whether or not my requests had even been read. Who knows if he really holds office hours or if its just another smoke and mirrors diversion.
Dump Dan!

It was like that since he became Chancellor
I’d receive e-mails once a quarter telling me that he was going to grace the lowly students with an hour of his time. Wow an hour, Chancellor?? Thank you soooo much for giving us a fraction of a fraction of your valuable time! You truly are a chancellor of the people and a great public figure whose salary is paid for by the taxpayers of California!
Dump Dan!

LOL I was a class before you
Yeah I used to get those dumb emails like once in a blue moon with the subject line “Meet With the Chancellor!” and then literally it was like open office hours or whatever for an hour. Yeah that makes sense, a campus with over 30,000 undergrads, yeah an hour four times a year should cover it. Block is such a joke, the only time I ever hear from him now is when he tries to hit me up for money. Dude sucks.
Its no accident Block-head's title is "Chancellor"
The UC System could have stopped him before he invaded us, but the brainwashing by his Minister of Propaganda (i.e., the AD Office) has already taken root. Yes, he’ll bring us the glory of a new Pauley, but it will be surrounded by ruins of the basketball program (just like he did at Virginia)
Another avenue to demand action
Just trying to think how we can force Block into action and to remove Chianti.
2 local sports talk guys are also Bruin alums and at least profess their love for the Blue and Gold. Yes, I am talking about Steve Hartman and John Ireland.
I dont get to listen to either of their shows very often, but I can say that whenever I do listen, I never hear anyone call in demanding Chianti’s head.
Would be interesting to see what would happen should the Bruin faithful call in on a daily basis, in mass, pointing out the bullet points described on BN which outlines the current state of our Football and Basketball programs over the last decade.
I believe I heard Hartman say once that he has soured on Chianti, but would be great to get both of those guys on their soap boxes about the state of our two major programs.
