UCLA Football Recruiting: 4 Star LB/DE Jeremy Castro Flips to Bruins (From Oregon)
I am way too emotionally drained from this but this news is a big deal. As rumors are now hot and heavy out of Oregon about Chip Kelly jumping to the NFL, UCLA's ongoing recruiting momentum just got another huge boost with the commitment of former Ducks' commit Jeremy Castro. The Kelly to Bucs rumor is eerily similar to Pete Carroll's move to the Seahawks. Others are also having similar line of thoughts.
Let's go back to Castro, a 4 star 6-3, 245lb linebacker/defensive end from Vista Murietta High School (Murietta, CA). He committed to the Bruins tonight. Just couple of hours ago he updated his Twitter profile by including the following hash tags in his bio:
#uclabound #truefreshman #bruinnation
He updated his bio after getting the following tweet from Tevin McDonald:
@gohard_16 you gotta change that bio now fam.. you a bruin now!
Brandon Huffman of BruinReportOnline.com first confirmed the commitment via Twitter (HT Bru88). Jon Gold has a post up on Inside UCLA. Castro is simply a fantastic get for UCLA as he seems to be the prototype DE/LB type who will fit into a 3-4 scheme in Westwood. He had offers from number of elite D-1 programs including LSU and Oklahoma, along with all the major Pac-12 schools. More after the jump.
Here is Castro's bio from Scout.com:
Castro can put his hand down (which he's primarily done) or play outside linebacker. He has good size, speed, quickness and athletic ability. Uses his hands well to disengage and find the ball. Castro has good closing speed and plays within himself. Castro plays the run well as well as rushing the quarterback. Needs to continue to work on pass coverage as defensive end is more natural position. -Brandon Huffman

So congrats to Castro. Huge welcome to him from all of us here on BN. However, we imagine the fun is just beginning with 2 weeks left to go till signing day.
GO BRUINS.

Wow.
That second video made me jealous. I wish UCLA’s home games were that loud and they were a high school!
Welcome, Jeremy!
He was an Oregon commit and with Kelly maybe leaving for the pros, it will be interesting to keep an eye on the rest of the Ducks’ commits.

I'm down with this
What I find particularly interesting is that if you go to Scout and sort our current commits by their national ranking, of our top 15 commits, only 4 were Neuheisel recruits (Porter, Westbrook, Taubler, Lakalaka). The rest (McCarthy, Adams, Castro, Rios, Powell, Hulick, Millweard, Lagace, Cyburt, Orjioke, Iese) are all Mora era commits.
Note: he was a washington commit before a Duck commit,
and those same hash tags on his Twitter account this past Friday for “oregongang” and “ducktillIdie” and that he was firm to Oregon only taking the UCLA OV to make his mom happy.
He looks like a fine player, whoever gets him

Great news!
Next to McCarthy, this is the biggest get by Mora IMO. And McCarthy was handed over in a silver platter practically.
Inroads
Awesome to get a guy from Vista Murrieta. They have a great program with a multitude of top-notch players. Here’s hoping this is just the beginning of a pipeline similar to ASU and Corona Centennial. I hope Su’a Cravens (2013) is paying attention.
more news
Does any one know or read on the recruits that came in this weekend… ive been all over yesterday n today trying to catch the latest im guessing Jeremy’s commitment is the newest of new news… any millweard’s out there that u hear are ready to commit after their visit b4 signing day????
Nobody knows for sure
We have a slight chance with Bryce Treggs (5 star WR), but I’d guess only maybe 15-20%. Reportedly, Simon Goines had a really good visit. He’s a 3 star OT. I’m not sure who else might come over from the weekend visits.
Looks like Jeremy could play LB..............Welcome aboard.
Relentless pursuit to the ballcarryer. Coaches will help with Speed pursuit.
Might not be big enough to play DE in a 3-4 scheme,
However, LB is prime for him. Speed will determine if he’s
on the outside, or plays one of the inside LB spots.
We need LB’s too.
Go Bruins!
