University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly told a highly placed UO source late Sunday night that he has reversed course and decided to turn down an offer from the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This is
like Coach K’s flirtations with the NBA, just another attempt to get a raise. I never really believed that he would leave.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Everything I hear on sports talk in Oregon is
assuming he will leave and leave soon. Even his statement said he had “unfinished business”. Everyone is assuming he is gone once he finishes that business.
The question in Oregon is if he is still Phil Knight’s golden boy. Supposedly, Belloti stepped outside the circle of trust when he did his lame flirtations with the Bruins in 2007 and Knight still hasn’t forgiven him. Knight is not happy with the impression that Eugene is not the premier job.
Can't really blame the man
for taking a long, hard look at the pinnacle of his profession; being a head coach in the NFL. If we get a 4 star flip or 2 in the process, so much the better.
or
It could have been a PR ploy and in the process getting more $ out of Oregon. Steve Sarkisian is a master at this. Petey set this trend at Southern Cal.
Exactly what it is
Though I am surprised the Bucs even looked to hire him. I just don’t see his offense working in the NFL.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
I don't think it was a salary grind
because his Oregon pay package is already in excess of $3.5 millions. He was approached by the Bucs unsolicited.
"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers asked for permission to engage in conversation with Coach Kelly, which was granted," Oregon Athletics Director Rob Mullens said. "The University of Oregon is one of the nation’s preeminent college football programs and, as such, it comes as no surprise the NFL is interested in our personnel. We are pleased with Coach Kelly’s decision to remain as our head coach. Coach Kelly has provided great leadership and remains committed to building on our position among the elite college football programs in the country.

Not what I'm saying
If he wasn’t interested, he would have said no right away. Instead, he let the rumors float, which only help him.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
he doesn't solely run that spread option
his key is the pace, not the offense. He ran a much more pass-oriented spread at New Hampshire. He’s a master at fitting his offense to his players, which makes me think he can do very well in the NFL
