Game Thread for Utah Utes vs. UCLA Bruins: The Minutes Question
Utah Utes at UCLA Bruins, Jan 26, 2012 7:30 PM PST
The program that does this automatically lists the game as at UCLA. While we may be the home team officially I don't feel comfortable ever listing us as such when we play at the Sports Arena. Tonight's game is at 7:32 p.m. on Prime Ticket with Joel Meyers and Don MacLean. As mentioned earlier, Utah has not won a game this year on the road.
Bruins Nation articles are on the side. The official preview is here and gametracker is here. The Utah Utes preview is here. David Wear tweaked his knee and is listed as probable tonight but I would be shocked if he does not play.
The bigger question is how many minutes will the starters play. As CBH has said UCLA's only way to get to the NCAA tournament is to win the Pac-12 tournament, that seems to mean playing a lot of players. For 3 or 4 games in as many days would be tough for the players if they are playing 30+ for each game. Will Stover and Powell see more early minutes tonight? Stover's energy has been a big plus.
Go Bruins.

May check in on the thread
but so far able to resist watching.

Josh Smith
I know it is not going to happen. I want to see Josh in the starting line-up.
I want to see Josh
DESERVE to be in the game AT ALL.
Yes, he’s just a young man. But so, too, are those of his teammates — and opponents — who are willing to give 100%.
CBH has to stop coddling ethos big emo baby. (“Songs I’m Tired Of” for $1,000, Alex.)
by HighDesertBruin on Jan 26, 2012 7:34 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
ethos?
I have no idea how Swype and I combined to get “ethos” when the intent was “that.”

Maybe smith
Should play left tackle

What if they played a game
and you were the only one to show up?

I was in a community theater show a long time ago
and one of the performers peeked out into the house and asked a question that no one could answer: “What’s the singular for audience?”
But the show went on.
Miserable pessimism
Weak opponent, like ASU. Josh will have a “big” game (at least for him) and Howland will continue on the same plan. Stover will get decent minutes, but in the next big game, forget it.
I’ll throw in, BH will plan MAN D all night and our W will convince him that the team is improving. There will be no practicing zone. Next tough opponent, especially on the road, will be more Bruin heart-ache.
Want to observe Powell body language. Rumors, rumors, rumors.
Please, Ben, prove me wrong!
OT: Does clicking the ad's on BN
Give any money to the site? If so, I am clicking away. Cruise.com came up and I was already on the site trying to plan our vacation.. while waiting for our game thread to come on.
DGB
Not us us ... lol
to SBN. We haven’t collected any $ from BN since it’s launch 6+ years ago. Not doing it for the $. :-)
I think those of us that are about to partake in this game
Deserve some sort of compensation though.
Good one, Ty
This game is not on TV locally. I suspect that if the telecast didn’t go because of some technical glitch that both people who were going to watch it might be disappointed. That said, is it going to be on any computer channel?

Chianti never understood ...
that there are almost zero Bruins who wanted to see games at USC’s home court.
Not securing the Forum was a monumental failure.
Bruins hate the Sports Arena.
My understanding has been
the Forum WAS an option, but Chianti Dan didn’t act fast enough.
Is this incorrect?
by HighDesertBruin on Jan 26, 2012 7:47 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
The Forum
We were going to play in the Forum, but it was sold to Madison Square Garden (MSG) and turned into a venue that wouldn’t support basketball
Wish all the games were at the Honda Center, been to a couple of games their with the family, everyone had a great time.
Ah, OK.
Surprised to discover something I can’t blame on Guerror.
Indeed, playing all our “home” games st the Honda Center would have been MUCH better.
I’m sure our astronomically out of touch athletic disrespecter, however, figured that would compromise attendance.
Genius.
by HighDesertBruin on Jan 26, 2012 7:58 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
MSG bought rights
but don’t believe they followed through with the remodeling. Forum is in limbo right now.

Yep, that is why they don't win
Their best chance is to hit threes. Did not say they were good at it. There is a reason they have not won on the road.
I'm late
Has anyone made any “feed Josh Smith (the ball)” jokes yet?

Not supposed to give a link
but it would be wise to look into what Bruin15 said at 8:09 during this gamethread. :P
Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
17-11 Bruins
I don’t know if it’s because Utah is so bad or because Howland is essentially a lame duck, but it’s really difficult to get excited for this.
That foul call was ridiculious
He got the call at home, now way on the road
DAM
Powell already out. starters back at 10:24
He invented the library
Which is why the world’s first ever library at UCLA is named after him.

If Stover does not play in the first half
is he being punished for his tweet?
his explanation of the tweet is proper
was posting an article about himself — not criticizing cbh.
he is a great kid. If he’s punished for this, it sucks.
sjh
Hope not
Although he definitely deserves to be reprimanded if it was an attack.

it did talk about him highly
So i can dig that.

He does and that is why CBH says he does not play more
it leaves him out of position for rebounding.
This makes sense on one hand...
CBH, a fundamentals coach.
On the other hand, Dragovic, Nelson.
Nestor.....
Watching the game on my Droid on my WiFi. Not a bad picture. I think it’s actually better than on my PC

I can't get that to work on my Droid.
Did you d/l something to use the second of the two links?
Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
My Droid didn't like that.
Hadn’t heard of Dolphin – will get it. Thanks.
Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
Phone still doesn't like it
even within Dolphin – looks like it wants a flash plugin, but I don’t see one on Dolphin’s list of add-ons, and honestly don’t care enough about the game to play with it more tonight – I’d rather sleep. May play with it in the next few days to see if I can get it to work. Thanks for the tip.
Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
Flash is a seperate download from the android market
You’ll need that if it is not already installed on your phone for the stream video to play.

I remember seeing Ed in Manhattan Beach and saying "hey, Charles!"
Not a high point.
Hail to the Hills of Westwood.
I think he cracked a smile when Mrs. Hilliard corrected me.
Hail to the Hills of Westwood.
That's ok
First time I met him on campus, I said “Hey Shon!” thinking he was “Shon Tarver.” Not a high point for me either but he was more than gracious. Got to know him well while we were in school!
So at least he's used to it.
I got a do over as well. He holds no grudges.
Hail to the Hills of Westwood.
Tough loss tonight, guys.
Really thought we had this one.

The SPTR
are giving Josh every call. At home this works on the road, I don’t think he is at the FT line yet
Awesome fast break
I think Laz was a foot from the rim when he dished to JA who was no longer looking for a pass.

an interview with Ed O (or Charles, or Shon) after the timeout.
greg in denver, U.C.L.A. guy for life - BruinsNation.com
No, that's normal for CBH
Good players need to feel the pine for humbleness.
Been a Bruin since birth
The only good thing about this game
Was able to listen and watch Ed O and think about those good days.
I really didn't know him all that well
He was before BN but after I cancelled my subscription to the fishwrap, so I really was in an information hole regarding UCLA.
From what I read, though, he seems like the quintessential Bruin, and ranks with the all time greats.
"nothing but a pick up game"
Hail to the Hills of Westwood.
In the building tonight
Tyus Edney, Mitchell Butler, Ed O’Bannon, and Don MacLean.
All we need is a center.
greg in denver, U.C.L.A. guy for life - BruinsNation.com
Yeah
This is ridiculious. This is a bad time. Offense looks nice but hard to take much from this game.
It's late here in Geezerville
Can I trust you guys to take care of business? I got worn out today riding roller coasters at Busch Gardens, and I need some rest.
i went on that last may
very fun, that park has a harry potter part too which was cool to look at
I haven't seen any of the movies, so I missed whatever coolness was involved based on the movies, but the ride is good.
being a 90s kid
harry potter was a huge part of my childhood, so i loved it, didn’t get to ride the ride though because it was insanely crowded.
The Hrry Potter stuff was under construction when we were there
a fact my son reminds me of with some regularity
greg in denver, U.C.L.A. guy for life - BruinsNation.com
I like that one
My current favorite is Manta at Sea World. There are a couple at Cedar Point in Ohio (I can’t say the city name because of the scandal, but it rhymes with Bandusky) – Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force. Check them on You Tube.
Busch Gardens now has Cheetah Chase, which is a nice, mellow ride. Sheikra is another good one, but I still lean toward Montu, a foot dangler with seven inversions.
Being retired is nice.
Goliath.
A mean drop in the beginning and a hard g-force spin near the end. It was the spin that did me in
Been a Bruin since birth
x2 has to be the best ride at magic mountain
roller coaster that has seats that flip you, so fun
haha thats why i always ride it first
how bout tatsu? that ride is super fun too
Only if I get to put away 3 stuffed burritos and some Mac n cheese beforehand........
Technicolor yawn on deck….
I was going to recommend Mr Toads Wild Ride.
Always a classic. Oh and can’t forget Peter Pan

Thanks for the digression, brothers. Now I must get my beauty sleep.
Good win tonight. Any win is a good win.

This could be fun David Wear at 3. That lineup would be huge.
I meant if we did that
NOt a good idea generally but this is so over.
