Can Stover Play Small Forward?

I admit this is a ridiculous idea on the surface of it because he's a great shot blocker down low, and if you take him away from the basket, it takes away his greatest strength. Also, he's 6'10" so maybe it's unreasonable to ask him to guard a guy who is 6'7 or 6'8" (forget about teams with SF's who are 6'5 or 6'6, I'm not even talking about them). However, he's very athletic, and I can picture Tyler Lamb shutting down a guy a couple of inches shorter, so why not Anthony?

crazy? I don't know the answer, I'm honestly just asking the question. I can't get the games on TV.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

To be brief and answer your question

No.

As you admit, you haven’t been watching the games since you can’t get them on TV. So let me cut to the chase.

No, he can’t play small forward. That’s an even worse idea than playing either Wear brother there.

hey, good news!

This is my last post! I’m going to start up my own blog.

by BanjoBenny on Jan 29, 2012 11:44 AM PST up reply actions

Don't feel like they're mutually exclusive

No reason you can’t post in both places, or even cross-post.

by Bellerophon on Jan 29, 2012 11:53 AM PST up reply actions

he's athletic, yes

but he’s not quick at all. He has slow feet laterally – good for a big man and shot blocker, but terrible for a wing defender. He would have no shot of guarding a halfway decent D-1 SF

by bucknellbruin on Jan 29, 2012 11:25 AM PST reply actions

aha, thanks for the explanation

Slow feet = no way.

I had heard he was athletic, but I guess it’s limited to going up, not over.

by BanjoBenny on Jan 29, 2012 11:42 AM PST up reply actions

Exactly

The key to perimeter defense is quick feet and quick hands. That’s the biggest problem we have, is that we simply don’t have guys with good lateral foot-speed like we used to (AA, DC, RW, LRMAM).

If Howland wasn't locked in his love for Wears

He’d go w a 3 guard lineup w combo of Lamb and Powell at the 3. But that would require some courage to think outside the box and not playing favorites. Howland is incapable of either.

Which is part of why he needs to go

When we don’t even make the freaking NIT, maybe people will realize that.

by Bellerophon on Jan 29, 2012 12:00 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe

It’s so he doesn’t have to remember which one is which when he sends them in. If they’re both in at the same time, no problem.

banjo, you are not being picked on.

What many 1st time or new posters fail to realize is that BN has academic standards to live up to. That being said,

A) your post lacks content. It consists of 1 paragraph (poorly written) a rhetorical question followed by a poorly constructed sentence and a sentence that has nothing to do with either the question or the sentence preceeding it.

B) A large number of moderators are lawyers, which means that they are going to assault you with facts, more facts, and documentation to back up those facts. Lawyers are also extremely disciplined when it comes to syntax, grammar, and well, content.

With that in mind, let’s review your post: Could/Should Stover play as a Small Forward? Honestly it would have been better used as a comment within a larger fan post than it’s own fan post. Perhaps the Stover self tweet Fan Post about a week ago. It doesn’t help that you destroyed your own argument by stating he might be too big to guard a smaller guy.

Finally, read up on the pinned up rules and advice to how to post on the front page. You’ll have to do a little searching, but they’re their on your left side of the main page.

In summary, if you’re going to post opinion, back it up with reason and logic. Don’t just tell us what you think; tell us why you think it. If you are going to post assertions; back them up with facts, facts and more facts.

I swear its/it’s a dyslexic kind of thing.

I’ve been extra careful since then too!

No worries...

the self editing on this blog is atrocious. Kinda like BB these days.

And, Coach would have commented that you have been ‘successful’ in that you are trying to be the best you can be. Or is that the Marines. Ha!

Carry on!

Mexi laying down the law. And I was all ready to roll out my “3 reasons why Jerime Anderson should be our starting Power Forward” post.

MexiBruin

After reading your response, I just had to reply. In my none lawyer opinion, if UCLA would stop trying to be academically correct and just play some hard and fast B-Ball they would be winning instead of hoping to hang on. Whoever heard of keeping a Point Guard running the point when he is clearly mostly ineffective. PUT ANDERSON AT THE POINT!!! If all of those academically correct individuals, that sit in the stands waiting on an un-coordinated 8 clap, would leave there BS at the door and get in there and cheer their team on, they may see some winning energy on the floor. Then there is the Wears, yes they are twins but, do you need to EVER have both of them on the floor at the same time. Academically speaking, twins can function separately. For all of you Lawyers, Do I need to make a case for having Lamb, Anderson, Stover, Powell and Wear on the floor for max minutes in the first half to get some momentum, points, excitement and energy into the game, in the beginning? Or, Does UCLA like to always Come from Behind.

no, he can't.

unfortunately, neither can anybody else on our roster this year

No, but

can Josh Smith play Offensive Tackle? Much more plausible IMO. :)

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Maybe he only wants to be forgotten about/ignored

in one sport, not two. Here’s hoping we’ll see Mora him on the field next year. (Couldn’t resist!)
