Around SBN: Celtics Seething Over Embarrassing Loss

""I feel like it's best if I stay," Franklin said. "Coach Mora didn't promise me anything, he didn't tell me I'll be a starter or anything. He's a hard-nosed coach, he wants to win championships and turn the program around. He'll do whatever he can to do that and that's a coach I want to play for.""

NICE!

That's a nice endorsement

from a kid I have a lot of respect for. If Mora can make a solid impression upon kids with the right attitude, returning seniors, no less, then he’ll have the team’s ear. Now, what’s his true message?

I didn't rush even rush for 1,000 yards...

And don’t know how to not fumble the ball!

I’m 50/50 for declaring myself for the NFL draft though!

Hilarious. Just ask Denver fans how great Rahim Moore is at tackling and coverage, since UCLA hyped him up as being a great leader and player like they are Franklin.

True. Not the year I had hoped for Rahim

I’ve been really cheering for him, but there have been some pretty rough moments

Great decision, JK

JK’s desire to help rebuild the legacy of winning Bruin football plus his positive reaction to what Coach Mora said to him speaks well of both men. I am glad to see JK wants to stay and be a part of the Bruin football program’s resurrection.

Great news

Not just the news of jetski’s returning, but how it reflects well on both Franklin and Mora.

“I feel like it’s best if I stay,” Franklin said. “Coach Mora didn’t promise me anything, he didn’t tell me I’ll be a starter or anything. He’s a hard-nosed coach, he wants to win championships and turn the program around. He’ll do whatever he can to do that and that’s a coach I want to play for.”
Right back atcha, Jonathan. You’re a player I want on my team.

jetski was also a vocal opponent of going over the wall, was he not?

I think he should be made a team captain.

Wish Kevin Prince had more game..

I really like the two of them as leaders, though mostly off the field.

Good news

but was anyone really thinking that he was going to go? I dont even think he would have been guaranteed to be drafted if he came out, but with a senior year where he shows that he can hold onto the ball (and not much else he has to prove) he has a shot to really boost his draft stock.

Kahlil Bell

didn’t do all that much here and found himself a home…

Dept at RB

It appears we will have some dept at the RB position. I would definitely like to see the RBs with the strongest work ethic and skill play. Franklin needs to secure the ball much better.

Good

He doesn’t have a serious shot at getting drafted right now. With a good senior year, who knows….

Good sign that he made this choice AFTER talking to Mora

“That’s a coach I want to play for” also says a lot. Let’s hope these things translate on the field.

Despite his fumbling woes

and the fact he wouldn’t be drafted very high this year, I’m glad he’s returning.

He seems to be one of the true bruins on our team that truly has this head screwed on right. Every interview I’ve heard with him and the way many on the team speak of his leadership, leads me to believe that we’re going to need his presence next year if we hope to start righting the sinking submerged titanic.

Maybe a new S&C coach

can help him with the fumbling…

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

by tasser10 on Jan 5, 2012 8:23 AM PST up reply actions

is that what the S&C coach does?

I would have thought that would be the job of the RB coach…

by impaulv on Jan 5, 2012 10:46 AM PST up reply actions

Both, IMO

Strenghts by the the S&C coach and technique by the RB coach.

Go Bruins!

by King J77 on Jan 5, 2012 11:58 AM PST up reply actions

Certainly

for technique, as King says above. But maybe he can work on his grip strength with the S&C coach?

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Some guys just fumble.

Look at Adrian Peterson (obviously not the same level as JetSki).

Tiki Barber...

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

by tasser10 on Jan 5, 2012 3:51 PM PST up reply actions

Heres the reason hes staying....

NFL coaches will coach him up and let him know if he has the stuff to go to the next level. 1yr of NFL type training and coaching is not bad to become an NFL prospect. I hope he does make it and shines cause this will get more recruits to come to UCLA.

by Seven2k7 on Jan 5, 2012 8:31 AM PST reply actions

Or

he would likely not get drafted this year, or get drafted in the very late rounds.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

by tasser10 on Jan 5, 2012 8:41 AM PST up reply actions

This...

There’s no way he’s staying for Mora or the team. All I remember of Franklin is all sorts of fumbles and pretty much never hitting the “home run,” that was supposedly the reason he was a starter. Also, his stupid little celebration dance in the bowl game after a 20-30 yard run (after he, once again, busted in to the secondary but failed to show any ability to beat them in the open field) was super annoying.

by SonOfWestwood93 on Jan 5, 2012 1:43 PM PST up reply actions

+1

Coleman should have started over franklin…

by seernst on Jan 5, 2012 1:47 PM PST up reply actions

Also

I have actually never really seen JetSki beat a defender with a move, or anything like that. He just runs until they catch him, then it’s over. Love the kid, but I don’t really find him a dangerous RB.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

by tasser10 on Jan 5, 2012 2:07 PM PST up reply actions

reason

That is why staying on more year with NFL coaches so they can help him. Remember NFL RB are disposable. One year you are hot the next you are too old. Why a trainer to get you started NFL ready when you can start early for free. Fumbles can be fixed. He has speed and has moves. Coleman is a big strong back.

by Seven2k7 on Jan 5, 2012 2:05 PM PST up reply actions

No

He’s staying because NFL teams aren’t falling all over themselves to draft the second best running back on a 6-8 team without breakaway speed nor a full complement of shifty moves to free himself but with a high propensity for putting the ball on the turf. He would be staying no matter who was coaching UCLA, because he has no realistic choice but to come back.

by Tydides on Jan 5, 2012 3:02 PM PST up reply actions

Mora

I like what this says about Mora more so than Franklin. In the past I always felt the coaching staff favored experience over talent to its detriment. It remains to be seen, but doesn’t feel like Mora may flip that upside down?

by Barnes1212 on Jan 5, 2012 9:48 AM PST reply actions

He's the one

that should have stayed. He so underachieved this year that I would wonder what he thinks he can do in the NFL? Jetski had fumble issues, but Jones had a complete fallout.

To be honest about Jetski also, I think that some extra added weight can’t hurt him for next year. Also some experience catching passes out of the backfield which is probably gonna happen in Mazzone’s offense. Because in the NFL Franklin at his size is probably a 3rd down, dump pass back anyway.

basketball players, are you paying attention

Thank you, Jonathan Franklin. With Sua-Filo back and a solid line, also following up #3 rushing team in the conference, we’re going to be great.
