Official video highlights and interviews from UCLA's 65-58 win against Arizona with comments from the Wear Twins, Lazeric Jones, and Tyler Lamb.
It was nice for the Bruins to bounce back but I think it's little more than charitable to describe a less than mediocre Arizona team as a "good" one. They were atrocious and looked very poorly coached.
GO BRUINS.

It's a Start
…but i think it’s safe to say we expect consistency.

Tyler Trapani getting at least 5 mins of PT...
against ASU is an unfair expectation for this year’s team. We got a good win yesterday and I hope the effort translates into another W against ASU.
If we play to the talent and execution
that we’ve actually SEEN (non-mythical) on our best day, we should blow ASU out. Howland’s 05-07 teams, while talented in hindsight, always appeared to maximize their talent with effort and execution. We’ve seen only flashes of greatness, if only for one half this entire season.
Still, it should be expected.
kinda of like how we "should" have been in the top 25 and won the pac-12?
The only thing I expect from this team is the unexpected. All I’m saying is that this team is not good enough to maintain the level of play that we’ve seen on our best day. For this reason, whether its by 20 points or by 1 point, a win is a win.
It may be unfair expectation for fans who are cool with losing/NIT seasons
Not here. ASU is coming in with 3 suspended players. If UCLA is a halfway decent program, it should destroy them on Sat.
Hyperbole. Not okay with losing/NIT seasons.
I’m just being realistic about this particular season. Whether we crush ASU or barely win, I’ll be taking The Tournament approach: survive and advance. The “eye test” for this season has proven the case. We should expect more out of the program at large, but also need to deal with what’s in front of us. GO BRUINS!
Yes, we are 'dealing' with what is "in front of us"
We have been discussing it extensively for years.
I think some of us confuse "expectation" with "prediction".
Nothing wrong with predicting a 1 point win over ASU, given our track record this season.
But this is UCLA, and we should expect the members in our basketball program to achieve their potential with regularity. If that happens, we blow out ASU. If not, and your prediction becomes reality, they will (probably) have failed to play with enough consistency to return to the NCAA’s and compete for championships, and that’s an expectation we’ll have for our programs.
I refuse to be okay with the kind of crap effort that a 1 point win over ASU would represent.
Amazing how that comes back
year after year…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Perhaps some confuse "expectation" with "contentment"
If we finish sub .500 should we expect to make the tourney? No. Does that mean we are okay with that? No. But I do appreciate all of the points put forward. Thank you.
Am I the only one who thinks it's disturbing how atrociously bad the Pac-12 is?
Top to bottom, every team ranges from mediocre to terrible. I would say we’re somewhere in the middle of that pack. I want to simply blame it on the 2007 exodus of talent from the conference, but would that even be accurate? That might have applied for the following couple of years, but not an entire undergraduate cycle later.
What’s going on with this conference?!
I have the same question
and all I can think of is the AAU circuit on the west coast…and perhaps the coaching turnover.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
FYI, Mora just tweeted
Welcoming Noel Mazzone (OC) and Jeff Ulbrich (SpTeams & Linebackers) to the UCLA Staff.. Guess it’s official.
was at the game
and inconsistency is all we are getting. I agree that CBH did a good job of “game coaching”, but the fundamentals are still lacking (incl. senior PG Jones). Both Jones and Norman Powell took horrible shots (poor positioning, shoulders not square, bad clock awareness) so no wonder they had bad stats:
Lazeric Jones 5-16 0-5 from 3, Norman Powell 1-6 0-2 from 3. None of our players seem capable of consistently finishing at the rim on fast breaks.
Plus with Stover (expected) and Tyler (unexpected) shooting 50% on FT, you can see where we need coaching in practice. Even so, a complete beatdown of ASU is expected.
