UCLA: Sources close to the program tell us that Angus McClure will wind up coaching the defensive line. Unfortunately we hear that Inoke Breckterfield will be leaving the program.

This doesn't make sense to me.
I saw it earlier, but McClure has always been an offensive line/running game/tight ends/special teams coach.
Formerly AllHailMightyBruins
I thought McClure was more of a recruiter/administrator
I take it there is skepticism about this and I hope he’s not becoming the D line coach.
We need a real D line coach — it was a unit that underperformed last year to the great detriment of the team.
And, wasn’t McClure the coach of the woeful special teams?
I still have a feeling that we are overloading our staff with great recruiters because of Mora’s inexperience, and not enough great teacher/coaches.
Someone, talk me down.

Going to wait for report from a more established outlet
But if there is any truth to this, I am guessing McClure as DL coach would be a temporary option until Mora brings in a DC who I think will have a DL specific background. Otherwise, McClure as a DL coach for next year doesn’t make any sense at all.
Have to agree...
what background does McClure have at the all-to-important DL position coach?
What’s curious is the after-the-slash position ‘recruiting coordinator’.
If Mora hasn’t already picked his DC who, as you say, has DL coaching experience, I then will be bewildered by this move. I mean, Mora does not have any DL experience, right?
Something is up.
That link means nothing
It’s only says that there will be a shift in responsibilities, not that McClure will be the long term solution at DL. Remember, Mora also announced on December 15th, that Breckterfield would be retained as DL coach. This was probably more of a strategic continuity move than anything else in preparation for the Bowl Game and to keep us as close to 9 coaches as possible. Remember that Tui was also elevated temoorarily elevated to QB coach. Since Neu was gone, there wasn’t anyone to Coach the QB’s directly. This made sense, since Johnson would now have to be HC and OC, adding QB Coach, would have been too much. As soon as the Bowl game was over and it was apparent that Mazzone was coming on board, Tui was moved to TE Coach.
Unlike Neu, Mora has been VERY strategic and decisive in his moves. I can’t believe that such a talented DC Pro would be as incompetent as to keep McClure. McClure is just a pawn at this point, like the others were. I fully expect that he will be kept on to help with recruiting and keep us at the 9 Coach max, with all hands on deck, until a DC is hired and he brings in his own DC. In fact, this has probably already happened behind the scenes. Just like with Mazzone. Mora has probably already targeted a DC who has decided to bring in his own DL Coach, it just hasn’t been announced or official. Once this was decided, Breckterfield was dead man walking and Mora decided to pull the trigger. Would makes sense and is in line with Mora’s moves so far.

That sucks for Breckterfield?
Yeah it sure does. But this year sucked even more for the DL players, who had to go out there without the proper training, technique, scheme, and player rotation.
Bottom line, if Breckterfield had done his job, he would still be here. This is a business of accountability. I’m sure it also sucks for Neu, and Johnson, and Tresey, and Lea, and on and on. Breckterfield knew what he was getting into when he took the job. We didn’t win as a team, and his unit played pathetically. GAME OVER!!!!
