Please forgive me if this has already been posted as I am still learning to maneuver around the site and figure it out. Just saw that Tedford was fired at Cal. No surprise. However, my question to you all is this. Is our very own Ben Howland a mirror image, on the basketball side, of Coach Tedford.
Think about it. Both guys came in to rebuild programs from people who failed before them (Lavin/Holmoe). Both of them had incredible early success where they were knocking on the door of a National Championship in their respective sports. Both of them have failed miserably the past 3-4 years because they didn't have the type of players that made them a success early. Tedford needs a strong, pocket passing QB. Howland needs tough, dirty, players with heart. Tedford could never recruit another QB like Aaron Rodgers. Just couldn't do it.
Howland has gone away from recruiting the type of players that made him successful (AA, JF, LMR, etc). Hell, continuing the mirror image theme...............Cal just got done renovating their football stadium this year, and we just got done renovating our very own Pauley Pavilion this year.
The only question left is whether Howland will meet the same fate as Tedford. I don't think so because I don't see any way the Bruins can't be semi-successful with the talent they got, and for DG, that will be enough. Sad but true. Tedford is a good coach who will find employment elsewhere quick. Howland?? Not sure.
