San Jose State hires a former Bruin as the new Spartan football coach

Not sure how many folks saw this news but we wanted to pass this on.

San Jose State has hired Ron Caragher (pronounced CARE-ah-grrr) as their new head coach. Caragher is going to replace Mike MacIntyre, who is Colorado's new coach.

Caragher was most recently at USD where he took over for Jim "What's Your Deal" Harbaugh and went 44-22 in last 6 years. He also happens to be a former Bruin:

Caragher's playing career continued at UCLA, where he was a backup quarterback from 1985-89, including two seasons playing behind Troy Aikman.

He returned to UCLA, first as a graduate assistant in 1994. In nine years with the Bruins, he coached under both Terry Donahue and Bob Toledo.

His record as a recruiter was a little suspect in Westwood. Maybe that has changed over time and he has developed into a good head. After all Caragher's new boss is none other than Gene Bleimeyer, who has a pretty good track record when it comes to hiring football coaches.

Good luck to Coach Caragher.
