UCLA Football Recruiting Surge Continues; Randall Goforth Commits to UCLA

UCLA's red hot recruiting day just got even better with the announcement of 3/4* WR/CB Randall Goforth choosing UCLA over Arizona St. and Washington. He joins Jordan Payton who fired the first rocket for UCLA on signing day and Javon Williams who kept the momentum going as signing day commits who have joined our already stellar class.

Goforth checks in at 6'0, 175 lbs. The Poly product played primarily out of the slot in HS, which is where he would likely play if he ends up on the offensive side of the ball in college. It isn't clear at this point whether Goforth will play CB or WR, but both are positions of need. Some scouts have indicated that he is a better CB prospect, and it will be interesting to see how his situation plays out next season.

You can check out some of his highlights from 2010 here:

Star-divide

In addition to Goforth, Coach Mora picked up a commit from WR/CB Ahmaad Harris out of Georgia. To be honest, there isn't much fanfare about this guy. His tape looks good, and I'm sure Coach Mora and company did their homework on him.

You can keep tracking the signees on the official site here. Also, keep eyes on the lists on BRO and BruinBlitz.

Let's continue the fun in a fresh open thread.

Welcome to Westwood, Randall and Ahmaad!

The video says WR/KR ...

but on scout he’s ranked as a corner.

We need receivers and corners so it could go either way.

No one wants to know

what Cheat Carroll and Barkley do on their own time.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

I did take a crap all over Barkley's face...

but it was a different time and you know…

What the hell?

I’ll settle for a 51-0 victory next year…

You might want to talk to someone about your desires…

If you do end up pulling off your stated objective, please send pictures to Cheaty Petey. He will want to see what you have done to his boy!!

Is Payton any good?

@WestlakeVillage Bruin: What are your thoughts on Jordan Payton? I am a Westlake Warrior/UCLA Bruin alum and watched the Oaks Christian v Westlake games these past couple years. I was not at all impressed by Payton…disappeared in big games, didn’t do anything in the 2nd half against Westlake in the 1st game this year and only caught one pass for 6 yards in the CIF Championship game. At this point, I think he’s completely over-hyped and took pleasure in saying so over the past few months but now that he’s a Bruin I’ll swallow my pride and hope that I’m wrong.

Goforth and beat the Trogans, Mora and Mora

Sorry, it just looked incomplete :-)

Goforth seems like a great kid.

He thanked all the universities for hosting him. It was very classy.

When he got a question about SUC, his quick response: “This is a new year”. I like it.

From the video

He seems like a great fit for Mazzone’s offense and an upgrade on returns. Do we know which coach is being tasked with special teams next season?

Celebrate Mora success!

Wearing my UCLA hat today around Pasadena has been pretty damn fun. A big smile on my face encouraged lot’s of bandwagon Trogan sneers. Anyone on BN in Pasadena up for drinks tonight? Want to bask with other Bruins in the fact that we have something to enjoy for the first time in a while.

35er bar

I was thinking of grabbing some drinks at the diver in old town or Lucky Baldwins on Colorado and Allen.

Ahmaad Harris

looking like Tairen Owens replacement in this class. Kid looks like a solid scat back/KR/PR prospect.

Interesting recruit

He’s not ranked. I wonder if he’s some kind of return specialist that we have been missing.

Treggs to Cal

Good for him sticking with his word. Still love our class.

No surprise

He loves Cal. I can’t say that I understand why he’d choose Berkeley over Westwood, but I definitely respect him for sticking with his word.

Dad's a Cal legacy

I’m sure his dad propped him up to be a Cal bear since he was born. Brian Treggs was Cal’s all-time leading receiver when he graduated, and IIRC had Cal’s most productive receiving year ever as a senior. Yeah, Bryce’s mom is a Bruin, but Treggs’ dad was big man on campus during his time in Berkeley. Brian Treggs wasn’t just Cal’s playmaker, he was also the vocal leader of that team — at least some of that had to have rubbed off on Bryce. I remember Brian Treggs calling his shot when Cal played both UCLA and SC, and had big games against both and did a lot of talking before, during, and after those games. Of course, he also vowed to move to Palo Alto if Cal lost to Stanford that year … and they did … and he didn’t.

I really respect Treggs for sticking with Cal to be honest

You have to appreciate that kind of loyalty. Good for him.

There needs to be a warning label on this blog...

For those of us who have been out of touch all day this is too much good news to handle!

Thinking of this class with the guys that were red-shirted last year.

Lucien anyone? Embree and Nelson are gone. We get this great new WR class + Lucien + Evans, Marvray -the ball droppers…I’m liking it a lot.

Go Bruins!

listening to CJM on CBS

The dynamic seem odd between CRN & CJM? When noting the efforts of on-campus recruiting folk, CRN said something to the effect of “glad you kept them.” Also, kinda weird that the two non-coaches of the KRAP hunger bowl were the CBS experts…

Is Jerry N. legit in any way?

by NicoBlue&Gold on Feb 1, 2012 5:24 PM PST reply actions

He was a 2-3 star recruit per Scout and Rivals

Solid depth guy for the program, but should not threaten Hundley or Fuller’s spot on the depth chart, and likely ends up behind Millweard as well.

Would like to say that today has been a wonderful day thanks to many people.

Thanks to Coach Mora and all the wonderful coaches he brought in, thanks to the staff that remained at UCLA and remained effective, thanks to all the kids and their families. Thanks to all the Bruins fans on this blog. It feels like family. Most of all for me, thanks to all the Bruins Nation people that run the blog. You guys are awesome.
