UCLA Football Recruiting Open Thread: 4 Star WR Jordan Payton Flips to Bruins From Huskies

PrintLooks like Coach Jim Mora may be in position to pull in the first big shocker (in a good way for the Bruins) by landing 4 star WR receiver from Oaks Christian - Jordan Payton. Sean Ceglinsky from ESPN first tweeted:
Word is Jordan Payton from Westlake Village (Ca.) Oaks Chrisitian will sign with #UCLA. That's right, #Washington no longer an option.
And Brandon Huffman just confirmed the news a little while ago. If this holds up, this will be a huge coup for the Bruins on signing day with few more targets on board.
Here is Jordan Payton's profile on Scout.com. The kid had offers from number of schools including Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas, and Michigan. Of course he was also part of the Cal recruiting class that imploded down the stretch. Here are his video highlights:

Obviously it's not over until the letter is in. But signs look great for Bruins. At least at this snapshot of time 8CLAP > Wooof. Recruiting junkies will know what that means.

I just got a text from a source who works at Oaks Christian.
His exact words at 9:02:
“Breaking news. Jordan Payton to UCLA now. No one knows.”
Given that Payton has flipped more than a pancake in flight, I’m waiting to see if he sends six letters of intent in to different schools, but if the Bruins do actually land Payton, what a coup for Jim Mora and Co.
I want to hear it from Jordan
& see his letter. But HUGE news! GO BRUINS!
At one point in time, Payton was considered the best receiver in the West.
He’s big, strong, physical, and fast. I’d like to see Yarber, Mazzone, and Mora bring out the best in this guy, because the sky is the limit.

im sure this is a stressful time
for the kids making decisions like this, but honestly this kid has done more flips than a cirque du soleil show…
i hope he is really on board for the long haul and wont look to transfer at the first sight of hardship
I can put as much blame
on Tosh Lupoi as on Payton, at this point. Sure, you should commit to the school, but things like that throw a wrench in your plans and your feelings.

Yep. Discounting the relationships recruits build with coaches is a mistake.
Regardless of the fact that Payton would not have been coached by Lupoi, he probably talked to him on a daily basis for the past 8 months.

Feldman on CBS Sports...
He just used UCLA as an example of what the “consumer recruiting services” lack and that is a recruits love of football. He claimed what plagued UCLA over the last several years was we had 4-star recruits but they were not committed to football. - not sure how much of that is solely based his over-the-wall critique.
But this reminds me one of the changes that Mora needs to make. I do’t care about stars today… I want to know if these guys LOVE football. Go Bruins!
