California at UCLA Thread: Keeping "the Home Streak" Going
California Golden Bears at UCLA Bruins, Feb 11, 2012 1:00 PM PST
Bruins got off to a decent start in our final stretch of the season by taking care of the Trees on the Thursday night. With the victory against Stanford UCLA has now put together a nice little 10 game winning streak at our "home" away from home. Still the winning streak has come at the expense of some really bad to average teams. Well this afternoon the Bruins will have an opportunity to make a statement against perhaps the only decent (somewhat) program in the Pac-12 conference.
The Bears are not in the top-25 but under Coach Mike Montgomery they are getting the best out of the talent available in their roster. If the Bruins can hold serve against them this afternoon, it should give us another boost with 6 games left in the regular season. You can check out the BN game notes here. The official UCLA preview is here and game tracker is here. The tip off is scheduled for 1:07 PM (PST) on FSN/PT.
With that let's get the show started. This is your open game thread. Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

A from a NYC conference room

Please post scores in the thread so I can peek in.

Also is a mildly good sign
AZ has had trouble at home this year. IF we keep this role going, we should have a shot against them.
I'm really bothered when players throw the ball at another in an attempt to get it out of bounds.
I know it’s a part of the game, but I’m reminded of that awful moment that Aboya got hit in the face by a UW player.
That was different
The UW thug threw it off his face on an inbound play. Throwing off someone leg is fine.
CBH is doing a token press
Making someone on Cal beside PG bring it up. Interesting

NOt as much as Zeek
I don’t think Zeek has made a foul in his career
Yes and no Crabbe has only 1 shot
He is doing a good job on his man
I wonder what our record is when we are forced to use a timeout first
Reflects how we are unable to pressure the other team into having to make adjustments.
We are not playing well right now
except for Josh
We are individual on offense right now
Zeek or Smith and then crap. Need to start running the office.
Too much 1 on 1 offense
but what can you do when everyone is missing shots, passing badly, or dropping balls
Really ugly
But Bak Bak has by far the best name in college basketball
We have to go inside
Bak Bak is a joke. Anyone can destroy him one on one
except the combined Wears are shooting 1-8
only Josh can do anything, and we’ve seen how weak his shots are
That was against Kamp and Karvish
It should be easier now
Commentators just said he hurt his ankle and its really swollen
He has a brace on

Cal has two guys on the floor
in Thurmon and Bak Bak that were not in the rotation at the start of the year
no one can make a shot
we’re not making any shots from the field.
Bruins down 21-27
1:58 left in second half. We haven’t scored a FG in 6 mins. We have 0 assists. Wears clanking 3s.
can't make chippies either

I hate the long 2 by the Wears
Cal has no one inside. They are going to collaspe on Josh by A Wear will be open for the layup or cut
Anderson knocks down the 3
cobb gets smashed again, this time by josh
2nd half doesn't seem promising
Kamp and Kravish were on the bench for Cal – we got served by Thurman and Bok Choi. Uh oh…
Bak Bak almost outscored us from the field
during the last five minutes. CBH better have a hell of a halftime speech/plan or this game is over.
(Only good thing is SPTR are helping us. Josh would have fouled out if this was on the road.)
He really needs to get that crappy stuff out of here

Just finished watching the first half
(Without sound, of course.)
Cal is a better team. Cal’s players all look faster. When Cal moves the ball, it looks like it is with the idea of getting a shot, not just for the sake of passing the ball around. Our players do not seem all that interested.
Is it just me, or does anyone actually think we have a chance of winning this?
Eh...We played by all accounts a terrible offensive 1st half, and only down 6
Shooting well below our average fg% and 0 assists, again well below our average performance. Regression to the mean will work in our favor in the second half. Not to mention Josh Smith isn’t in foul trouble and looks pretty decent actually.
They're also turning it over above their average
Regression to the mean on that stat means we’re F’d.
Ah, so regression to the mean only works when it's something you want to happen
Got it. That’s smart.
Halftime?
From the thread, I’m not feeling bad that I’m earning a living instead of watching the game.
There was a time I would not miss a game no matter how much it cost me.
sjh
it is halftime, 26-32 Bruins
BOTH Wears are just completely off their game, combined 1-10 shooting from the field.
Would really like to see Powell be aggressive this half
Get the ball and go to the bucket
Cal's D is good
But we are making them look like CBH’s FF teams. They are not that good. And we are getting some foul calls
I'm going to go get dressed and go out for a walk, seems sunny today
We all know where this game is going. We’re going to either take a lead and choke the game away, or just never take the lead.
maybe we'll get hot from the 3!
lamb needs some buckets
That last one was poorly defended
(Wear was in the wrong place) but the two before that were off-balance attempts that looked well-defended but still went in.

As if it doesn't need to be said enough
Fire
Dan
Guerrero
cannot trust him to hire anyone ever again.
Just got home to catch the end of the game.
Looks like I should have stayed out.
It’s astonishing how bad this Bruin team is. Cal is a very mediocre team that will get bounced in the first or second round of the tournament.
How do you use 4 TO's in 7 minutes?
Are f-ing kidding me? Just let them play?

Zeek dribbling too much
Taking bad shots making bad passes
Why can’t we just pass the ball to josh on the block. That’s how we started in the first half drawing fouls and getting easy baskets.

wears
the wears are unwatchable on both sides of the ball. lucky for us, we got two of them.

Did you change your diet?
It seems that your negative mojo isn’t working like it used to.
Been a Bruin since birth
I agree with Marques on Powell
Needs to go to the hoop
+1
People compare him to Russ athletically but he has not shown the aggressiveness or desire to get to the hoop that Russ has

Not making excuses
Just hoping to see more production from Powell because he has a very bright future. Hopefully he is able to make “the leap” that a lot of players do from Freshman to Sophomore year

I think he should be getting some more minutes as well
But like DC said, the one area I think he needs to improve on is being more aggressive going to the hoop. Maybe he’s not confident enough in his ball handling going to the hoop?

Question for you also.
If Shabazz does come, how do you see the minutes working out between Shabazz, Kyle Anderson, Powell, Lamb, and Jordan Adams?
Definitely a good problem to have if the case
by themichael21 on Feb 11, 2012 2:52 PM PST up reply actions
lamb
under no circumstances should lamb be driving to the basket. its as if hes not even trying to make the basket but rather looking for the foul.

That was a good play by Jerime
Wear just could not finish
Seems like there have been a lot of good plays that led to close-rage shots today
that a Wear just could not finish.
DAM it Anderson
So good then does two bad plays in a row
And next year - we don't have a true pg in our class
Our big recruit Kyle Anderson is called “slomo” with questionable lateral quickness.
Wish Artis didn't flip to Oregon
Maybe we can trade Larry Drew to his dad for Teague?
