California at UCLA Thread: Keeping "the Home Streak" Going

California Golden Bears at UCLA Bruins, Feb 11, 2012 1:00 PM PST

Bruins need to keep the streak going at "home." (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

Bruins got off to a decent start in our final stretch of the season by taking care of the Trees on the Thursday night. With the victory against Stanford UCLA has now put together a nice little 10 game winning streak at our "home" away from home. Still the winning streak has come at the expense of some really bad to average teams. Well this afternoon the Bruins will have an opportunity to make a statement against perhaps the only decent (somewhat) program in the Pac-12 conference.

The Bears are not in the top-25 but under Coach Mike Montgomery they are getting the best out of the talent available in their roster. If the Bruins can hold serve against them this afternoon, it should give us another boost with 6 games left in the regular season. You can check out the BN game notes here. The official UCLA preview is here and game tracker is here. The tip off is scheduled for 1:07 PM (PST) on FSN/PT.

With that let's get the show started. This is your open game thread. Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

Great job by whoever put that together.

indeed

but they do a great job maximizing the performance out of the guys they have

CBH is doing a token press

Making someone on Cal beside PG bring it up. Interesting

No one stops Jerime

Coast to coast. 15-12 Bruins.

by Tydides on Feb 11, 2012 1:26 PM PST reply actions

Doh!!!

I thought that was Powell.

That was a nice replay of Zeek

halfheartedly slapping at the ball as his man blows by him

by Tydides on Feb 11, 2012 1:30 PM PST reply actions

19-15 Cal

After a Jerime 3 brick.

by Tydides on Feb 11, 2012 1:31 PM PST reply actions

We are individual on offense right now

Zeek or Smith and then crap. Need to start running the office.

by DCBruins on Feb 11, 2012 1:33 PM PST reply actions

yep

wears aren’t making easy layups today

by MathBruin on Feb 11, 2012 1:34 PM PST up reply actions

Cal just pulled a UCLA

with 7 minutes left in the half! New record

Without Smith

This game is over already.

by Tydides on Feb 11, 2012 1:37 PM PST reply actions

Too much 1 on 1 offense

but what can you do when everyone is missing shots, passing badly, or dropping balls

by BruinEngy on Feb 11, 2012 1:38 PM PST reply actions

Really ugly

But Bak Bak has by far the best name in college basketball

by themichael21 on Feb 11, 2012 1:38 PM PST reply actions

We have to go inside

Bak Bak is a joke. Anyone can destroy him one on one

by DCBruins on Feb 11, 2012 1:38 PM PST reply actions

except the combined Wears are shooting 1-8

only Josh can do anything, and we’ve seen how weak his shots are

by BruinEngy on Feb 11, 2012 1:39 PM PST up reply actions

Jermie Anderson

just plays so much more under control

Bruins down 21-27

1:58 left in second half. We haven’t scored a FG in 6 mins. We have 0 assists. Wears clanking 3s.

by Nestor on Feb 11, 2012 1:47 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

I guess I need to be more specific in my request

by DCBruins on Feb 11, 2012 1:51 PM PST up reply actions

I hate the long 2 by the Wears

Cal has no one inside. They are going to collaspe on Josh by A Wear will be open for the layup or cut

Anderson knocks down the 3

cobb gets smashed again, this time by josh

by MathBruin on Feb 11, 2012 1:53 PM PST reply actions

Bak Bak almost outscored us from the field

during the last five minutes. CBH better have a hell of a halftime speech/plan or this game is over.

(Only good thing is SPTR are helping us. Josh would have fouled out if this was on the road.)

by DCBruins on Feb 11, 2012 1:54 PM PST reply actions

Just finished watching the first half

(Without sound, of course.)

Cal is a better team. Cal’s players all look faster. When Cal moves the ball, it looks like it is with the idea of getting a shot, not just for the sake of passing the ball around. Our players do not seem all that interested.

Is it just me, or does anyone actually think we have a chance of winning this?

by Fox 71 on Feb 11, 2012 1:56 PM PST reply actions

Eh...We played by all accounts a terrible offensive 1st half, and only down 6

Shooting well below our average fg% and 0 assists, again well below our average performance. Regression to the mean will work in our favor in the second half. Not to mention Josh Smith isn’t in foul trouble and looks pretty decent actually.

by BillytheSid on Feb 11, 2012 2:01 PM PST up reply actions

Halftime?

From the thread, I’m not feeling bad that I’m earning a living instead of watching the game.

There was a time I would not miss a game no matter how much it cost me.

it is halftime, 26-32 Bruins

BOTH Wears are just completely off their game, combined 1-10 shooting from the field.

Cal's D is good

But we are making them look like CBH’s FF teams. They are not that good. And we are getting some foul calls

I guess they were all busy admiring Zeek’s shot. Who needs to get back on D?

by Tydides on Feb 11, 2012 2:13 PM PST reply actions

Good lord

We can’t even enjoy a score when we give up embarrassing buckets like that.

37-47 UCLA

Bears running away with it

by BruinEngy on Feb 11, 2012 2:18 PM PST reply actions

That last one was poorly defended

(Wear was in the wrong place) but the two before that were off-balance attempts that looked well-defended but still went in.

by TheCheetah on Feb 11, 2012 2:20 PM PST up reply actions

37-50 Bears

well, they need to hit the and-one to make it 50

Just got home to catch the end of the game.

Looks like I should have stayed out.

It’s astonishing how bad this Bruin team is. Cal is a very mediocre team that will get bounced in the first or second round of the tournament.

by BruinMW on Feb 11, 2012 2:27 PM PST reply actions

Zeek dribbling too much

Taking bad shots making bad passes

Why can’t we just pass the ball to josh on the block. That’s how we started in the first half drawing fouls and getting easy baskets.

by realfabfive on Feb 11, 2012 2:32 PM PST via mobile reply actions

wears

the wears are unwatchable on both sides of the ball. lucky for us, we got two of them.

by jeunesse on Feb 11, 2012 2:32 PM PST via mobile reply actions

This program is toast

And it will not matter even if Shabbaz comes to UCLA.

by Nestor on Feb 11, 2012 2:34 PM PST reply actions

Did you change your diet?

It seems that your negative mojo isn’t working like it used to.

Been a Bruin since birth

by LongtimeBru on Feb 11, 2012 2:36 PM PST up reply actions

This is not a mojo thing

That stops mattering when the program is in need of a new coach.

+1

People compare him to Russ athletically but he has not shown the aggressiveness or desire to get to the hoop that Russ has

by themichael21 on Feb 11, 2012 2:35 PM PST up reply actions

Not making excuses

Just hoping to see more production from Powell because he has a very bright future. Hopefully he is able to make “the leap” that a lot of players do from Freshman to Sophomore year

by themichael21 on Feb 11, 2012 2:39 PM PST up reply actions

I think he should be getting some more minutes as well

But like DC said, the one area I think he needs to improve on is being more aggressive going to the hoop. Maybe he’s not confident enough in his ball handling going to the hoop?

by themichael21 on Feb 11, 2012 2:51 PM PST up reply actions

Question for you also.

If Shabazz does come, how do you see the minutes working out between Shabazz, Kyle Anderson, Powell, Lamb, and Jordan Adams?

Definitely a good problem to have if the case

by themichael21 on Feb 11, 2012 2:52 PM PST up reply actions

lamb

under no circumstances should lamb be driving to the basket. its as if hes not even trying to make the basket but rather looking for the foul.

by jeunesse on Feb 11, 2012 2:35 PM PST via mobile reply actions

Here we go - starting our nice 12-0 run.

Oops – then we’re still behind. Oh, well.
