Around SBN: Following UFC 146 Loss, Jason 'Mayhem' Miller 'Done' in UFC

Quick and short take from Dick Vermeil - perhaps the best UCLA coach in last 30+ years on Jim Mora. According to Coach Vermeil, " the school ... the department .." have to "help" Coach Mora for him to be successful ("get it going"). Wonder what he think's about "what's wrong with Spaulding" Dan.

Saw that a couple of days ago

Another honest, plain spoken man from just over the hill from me (Calistoga, CA). Discrete enough though not to call anyone out, yet still make his point clearly.

You're Right, Nestor,

I can’t think of any Bruin coach I’ve liked since Vermeil, although I hope Mora’s the man. In fact, I’m having trouble thinking of any great UCLA football coaches other than these three: Red Sanders, Tommy Prothro and Dick Vermeil. Did I miss anyone? (I agree with Donohue’s critics, so I’m not including him.)

I'm sorry. But I'm a little too young to remember the Donohue era.

It seemed like he had a pretty good record. What are the reasons lots dislike him? Thanks.

Lots lots of posts on BN addressing it

Search with the phrase “Typhoid Terry.”

I'll tell you what did it for me

I believe it was Cade’s freshman year and UCLA was playing Oregon at the Rose Bowl. UCLA had the ball and time remaining in the first half and the offense was doing fairly well. So instead of going for the TD, he settled for a FG attempt. Sure the FG was converted (I believe by Bjorn Merten), but instead of possibly putting Oregon away early, they ended up losing the game by a late TD. Conservative play calling at its finest.

His conservative play-calling made the least of the talent he had to work with.

IIRC, his best years were when he had Homer Smith as offensive coordinator.

I wonder just how obvious strap on DG's incompetence is around the country

Being a Bruin it seems so glaringly obvious to me. But as I speak to more of my friends at colleges across the country it seems that more and more people realize what an ass clown our AD is. I mean really, who in the hell gets to hire 3 coaches?

It’ll be interesting going forward to see just how much “help” Coach Mora will get from the Morgan Center. Last I heard they were still doing “feasibility studies” and trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with Spaulding field anyway.
