UCLA Finishes No. 15 in SB Nation's Composite Recruiting Poll
SB Nation's Bud Elliot and his team did a great job of threading together recruiting stories from all over the country. He put together a chart showing, all four rankings services (247Sports, ESPN, Rivals and Scout), and a composite of the four.
UCLA finished number 15. Alabama was number 1. Stanford with its unreal finish closed at number 7. Southern Cal was at number 11. Oregon and Washington were the other Pac-12 programs finishing at number 17 and 21.

That is a great month. Reminds me of when J. Fisher took over at FSU. Noles were 44th nationally with a month or so to go, finished 9th.
Yep
I think it has gotten lost a bit in the nation chatter around Urban Meyer’s not so surprising success. I personally don’t care for much in terms of comparison to Pete Carroll because Mora has to prove it on the field, starting next season. However, in terms of recruiting Mora’s effort is reminiscent of Carroll’s first recruiting class at Southern Cal, when he finished really strong landing some big recruits. In some ways the signing of Ellis McCarthy was similar to Trojans signing Shawn Cody (a highly coveted DL at the time – and who did turn out to be a game changer) in closing days of 2001 recruiting season.
Like Pete Carroll did, Coach Mora brings
a lifetime of knowledge and first hand experience about what it takes for a player to succeed in the NFL. That knowledge is a very hot commodity in the eyes of young footballers looking to go to “the league”. The premium placed on this expertise is self evident from flood of tweets and comments of innumerable recruits focused on starring in college then making millions in the NFL. CPC’s NFL record as a HC was and still is 2 games under .500. Coach Mora’s NFL HC record is also 2 games under .500. We certainly know PC could coach at this level, cheating aside. I have every reason to think Coach Mora will be as effective on the field as he was in recruiting, without cheating.
I’d like to thank the blog host, the mods, and the posters for making this the most entertaining, thought provoking and exciting recruiting season ever!
Meh
On Pompom’s college record. He did after all get the best High School players by whatever means possible, and he had great assistant coaches. His true coaching abilities are accurately reflected in his NFL experience.
We've already seen that having excellent recruiting classes
does not automatically translate to wins on the field. Yes, Pete cheated to get the best recruits, but he also translated that talent into wins and titles. Coach Neu didn’t translate the top talent he recruited into wins, much less a sniff at a BCS spot and that’s why he is gone. Yes, Cheaty Petey Carroll hired great assistants, but that’s what a good HC is supposed to do. His AD Elmer Fudd may have been an administrative idiot, but he wasn’t a football know nothing, meddling Dan Guerrero, either. He let Pete hire his own guys and all of this translated into wins.
If you’re right about the NFL being the true head coaching measure, keep in mind both Mora and Carroll are 2 games under .500 as head coaches. What then should our expectations be?
