He starts talking 6:15 in. Talks about Fuller and Millweard and Hundley as being the 3 main candidates to start at QB next year. Doesn't sound too good for Brehaut and Prince. Also talks about recruiting ties and how the staff works together and recruiting going forward.

In talking about Fuller and Millweard Klemm says,"..with those two along with Brett Hundley, out of that core group of quarterbacks right there, we should have our leader for the upcoming season."

Brehaut and Prince

will be gone by the time Fuller and Millweard show up in 2013. Not so good for RN’s son Jerry.

They are both showing up for Fall 2012

Definitely interesting re. Brehaut and Prince if accurate.

assuming LA means those guys will redshirt?

would make sense for Millweard to redshirt, to get some separation, while Fuller could see the field in other capacities.

Prince and Brehaut are plenty good enough to back up Hundley for a year, but it somewhat depends on how they want to run the offense. Assuming they try to work some dual-threat plays with Hundley, maybe Prince is a closer match for Hundley’s skill set than Brehaut? Based on previous form, I’d expect Prince to be more likely to dedicate himself to a new play book as a backup than Brehaut would.

Haven' had the opportnity to listen to the linked audio yet

but themichael’s synopsis makes it seem that Klemm has Fuller and Millweard in the hunt for the upcoming season.

Listened to it

I heard the same thing Michael heard as well. I will have to listen it again. Interesting because Klemm doesn’t strike me as some one who is commenting off the reservation.

I'm sure they'll get a chance

But I think Brehaut will start the first 1 or 2 games with Hundley playing, then Hundley will start the rest of the season, Breuhaut backing up, Prince will be #3 and will be the first back up if we have any injuries at the position. I wouldn’t be surprised if both Millweard and Fuller redshirt because we have the depth at the position in 2012. That said, if fuller or Millweard play well enough to earn #1 or #2, then they should play as true freshmen. Millweard may actually get the leg up as an early enrollee.

by Odysseus on Feb 3, 2012 9:55 AM PST up reply actions

no reason they can't be in the mix through Fall training camp

and then redshirt. Hundley should have a distinct advantage with extra training camps. Will be interesting to see how spring training works out – competition between Hundley and the rising seniors, or Hundley getting the bulk of reps straight out of the gate?

by VeniceBruin on Feb 2, 2012 12:55 PM PST up reply actions

Millweard should be in the mix for spring ball

as an early enrollee. I hope it’s a truly fair and open competition. I expect Brehaut and Hundley will share the position to open the year, with Hundley winning the position outright a few games in. But we’ll see. Brehaut could flourish under Mazzone, but playing baseball will set him back in the competition.

Fuller and Millweard will be here in 2012

Am very happy about this development……….any of them will be an improvement.

I would so much rather take some early lumps

with Fuller, Millweard, or Hundley. Staying with Brehaut or Prince is what CRN would have done because it was the safer way to go. And, it’s the reason why Mora and his staff are now calling the shots.

Could. Have.

Not “could of”. Please! :)

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Watching tape from last year's games

wont do any favors for either Prince or Brehaut.

Of course, had they been coached properly, or if that stupid Pistol weren’t around, maybe it would be different.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If it is broke, fix it.

Looks like they’re fixing it.

Isn’t this what we’ve been asking for? Let everybody compete and may the best man win?

On a 6-8 team nobody is entitled, period.

GO BRUINS.

My guess (emphasis on guess)

is that they’re unimpressed with Prince and whatever Brehaut did to get left home from the bowl game really turned the staff off to him.

Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I tweeted my followers to ask which I should take

If you believe that the QB is the leader of the team

then sometimes, you have to cut the snake’s head to send a message…but I thought Brehaut would have had a shot in Mazzone’s system…

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

With all due respect to everyone here, I think this is an overreaction to an empty sentence.

This (and any worthwhile brand new) coaching staff is going into the off-season with a completely open mind about every single player under scholarship. I think that is one thing that has rung true in almost every talk Mora has had about the roster.

Not a single player is entitled to anything or any spot. That goes from Fauria at TE, to Datone/Marsh/Owa on the line, to Hester/Price/McDonald in the secondary, to XSF/Baca/Ward on the O-line, to Franklin at RB and obviously to Prince/Brehaut/Hundley at QB. Not a single position has a projected starter or backup in the eyes of the coaches. There is no depth chart at this point.

If Mora is the guy we all hope he is, the order of the depth chart is simply alphabetical order right now.

That is 100% the way it should be.

I think that this quote is simply Klemm speaking about the future of the team.
A few points on that particular statement the way I heard it.
#1. Not his call in regards to that. Mazzone is the man who makes that decision.
#2. Klemm has been completely focused on recruiting and has done an outstanding job. But what I hear in that interview is a three second pause after Hundley’s name is said where it seems like he is searching for more information.
“those two along with…uh… Brett Hundley, and I think…um…you know…out of that core group of quarterbacks.”

To me, that is a guy who blanked on the names of the upperclassmen/the guys he didn’t recruit. Which isn’t surprising since he is an offensive line coach and neither of the upperclassmen have established themselves.

It will be wide open. Hundley will have his shot, Brehaut will have his shot, Prince will have his shot, Fuller will have his shot, Millweard will have his shot, Neuheisal will have his shot, Crissman will have his shot.
As will every other player on the roster.

Wait until after spring ball to attach any coach’s analysis of players to potential playing time.

I think it was premature & not his place to make a comment like that. Unless he mispoke and meant “the future” or “upcoming seasonS” or blanking on the rest of the list, he shoudn’t have made that comment.

Although it’s exciting to see an open mind, Klemm’s statements were very surprising.

After he committed, Javon Williams did say that Brett Hundley was going to be the starting quarterback next year.

Exciting to have options though!

Every job should be open to every player

Give the QB job to the best QB. Don’t care if the that’s prince, bre, hundley, or a new recruit.

All jobs have to be earned.

by silverlakebruin on Feb 3, 2012 10:34 AM PST reply actions

Coach Mora has clearly stated it's a

clean slate start. Everyone starts from zero with the chance to earn the right to play. Cannot be more fair to an athlete than that.
