To Coach Howland, Respectfully,
As someone who almost certainly knows less about coaching a basketball team than you:
Last night's game ended like this:
- 2 point/one possession game
- one timeout left
- over 20 seconds left
- scoreless in the previous 5 minutes
- inability to figure out the zone on the fly
- inability to play uptempo style like washington
- need to regain momentum
You didn't call the time out. Why? You're typically so keen on doing so. Why not call a time out and let our guys set something up? If you can, please explain. If you can't do so satisfactorily, I fear that the time to move on will have arrived.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Another bit of irony
The previous time we called a timeout with the ball, the play call led to an easy alley-oop basket (sp?) for Powell.

CBH falls in the school of coaches
that doesn’t believe in calling timeouts in then end. You see that most of the time he doesn’t bother to save them. He saved one this time either because 1) the Bruins were playing a solid game all along and he didn’t see the need or 2) he knows we and the press think he is an a-hole with timeouts so he is doing a CYA.
Has anyone heard his comments on the last 24 seconds yet-I’m curious about his “take”?
One of the many head scratchers about that collapse.
According to my basketball paradigm, you score early on that possession. The important thing is to score and tie the game, or God willing, take the 1 point lead. It is critical to do one or the other. Once you score, you worry about stopping the other team.
As I saw it, they ran down the clock intentionally. But, why would you do that unless you were absolutely certain you could score. I mean this is something you do when you’re on the 5 yard line, and a near automatic kicker. This is something you do when you have a Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant to turn to.
Why on earth would you let the clock run down when you are trailing?
Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing. ~ Vince Lombardi
Howland:
“I couldn’t figure out how to score the last 5 minutes, what makes you think I’d figure it out during a timeout?”
Last night was more of
The refs screwing us than anything. That was ridiculous.
"Whoever said WAR is HELL must have been talking about Aaron Rowand" - McCoven faithful
Really? It was the refs who went into a zone and had us totally confused?
And don’t you hate it when the refs refuse to call a time out with 26 seconds left to set up the game-tying or game-winning shot?
But Fox...
didn’t the boys play well against the zone earlier in the game? In fact, didn’t the boys build their lead against the zone?
Hey, understand…you and I are spoiled.
The refs were awful
but the SPTR’s are always awful, and even moreso on the road. That part should have been expected, and so we can’t blame the loss on them.

In a close game...
the refs become a factor. If they made bad calls that benefited WU, then, of course, one can blame them. If your point is that UCLA should be so good that the refs are a non factor, then OK.
But, in that game, under the current circumstances, then they most definitely ‘decide’ the game
I agree that the refs are awful and getting worse
The way to counteract that is to play so much better than your opponent that you take bad refs out of the equation.
