I wonder
How many head coaches experience huge success in their first year in college football? Our schedule does look tame enough, but who knows..
The schedule is tame
And he will be expected to win 8-9 and beat Southern Cal because of it. Anything less is a loser’s mentality.
Well...there was Hoke this past year

Either Mora reads BN or he had researchers do it
On quarterbacks:
“That’s a position that we’d like to identify a guy as soon as we can so that our players understand and our fans understand what direction we’re going in at that position,”
On playing talented youth:
“I have no problem starting a young guy if he’s the best guy or if he looks like he’s going to be the best guy with a couple of weeks of seasoning,”
The optimist in me says that he’s just going about running a college football program the way it ought to be run (which runs counter to a lot of what has happened at UCLA of late). The pessimist in me wonders if he’s got a group of campaign manager types determining what will test well with his constituents. It’s just all sounded too pitch perfect up to this point.
They all read BN.
Problem is, once they do, hard to tell if just media spin or reality coming from the coaches and admins.

I don't care about the BCS.
I want this team to do one simple thing: give its HONEST BEST EFFORT to be the HONEST BEST it can be.
No talking of “doing our best” as an excuse to come up short. If they’re really doing their best, there’s nothing to be ashamed of win or lose. If they know they’re not pushing themselves, then something needs to change. We’ve already changed the coaches, we’ve already started changing the system: it’s on the players now.
They CAN do it. They CAN excel. They CAN win.
No excuses. No cop-outs. No rationalizations.
Just HONEST. BEST. EFFORT.

I couldn't agree more
They were all stars in high school. Each of them has been the best player on each team they’ve been on. That said, with the talent now being equalized somewhat, the coaches have a responsibility to actually coach, and make each guy a little better than he was the day before. If the coaches are included in the HONEST BEST EFFORT category, then I"m content. As of now I have hope. 365 days ago I had no hope. That’s really all I can ask for at this point.
Mora's attitude speaks to those who are setting the bar low for our football program.
As a coach, he is smart enough to not name a certain number of wins. But his attitude that winning time is now is right in line with the expectations we have outlined for U.C.L.A. football. We are not to be an also ran. We are not to be just some there team to fill out the conference. We are to be a contender and expect the team to do as well as it can.
High expectations. I can live with that.

I'd love one of our fans to go up to him
and say “hi Coach, this year, I’m gonna cut you some slack! Good luck!”
He’d probably kick their ass.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
You made me laugh, Tas, because that's exactly what would happen.
“Sure Coach. Four wins would be fine.” WHAMMO!
I like what he's saying...
Can’t wait to see how he coaches.
