Big, well-deserved congratulations to King Ed. Watching the 1995 run with my son (who would later graduate from UCLA) is one of the highlights of my life. All class, Ed. All Bruin.
I love Ed.
I give him huge credit for ‘05. A great player and a great leader. It bums me out that he’s selling cars in Vegas.
The 2 greatest moments I ever witnessed in Pauley...
(2) 1995, home game against Notre Dame: Ed O charging from one end of the court to the other to get in the face of an Irish player who delivered a hard foul to Tyus Edney on a breakaway. No punches thrown, no additional shoves, but seeing our Captain going-nose-to-nose to back up our point guard got the pauley crowd to almost deafening levels of frenzy. Controlled rage and unrelenting determination exemplified.
(1) Also 1995, against Oregon, the LAST home game for our championship squad. Ed O’ getting taken out with about a minute left, getting down on all fours to kiss the center circle, and then immediately springing up from the floor to pump his fist in the air. Unbridled joy borne of the knowledge that Coach’s credo of success — “doing your best to be the best you are capable of becoming” — was within reach.
