Quest for #109: Baseball, Golf, Tennis, Softball Thread

UPDATE (R): Go ahead and use this as the open thread for this mid-day baseball game too. Crazy (the good kind of crazy) day in UCLA athletics so let's hope everyone can keep it rolling. Go Bruins!

There is a lot more post-season action from our Bruin squads today, so let's get on it!

The Men's Golf Team will play round two of the NCAA Central Regional yesterday at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, KY. The top seeded Bruins had a great day yesterday during round one, finishing at four under par as a team, and leading second place Colorado State and Chattanooga by a whopping 10 strokes. The top 5 teams will advance to the NCAA Champioships, so the Bruins have put themselves in a great position to start. Pedro Figueiredo is tied with one other player for the overall lead at -4 and teammate Patrick Cantlay is just one shot behind at -3. The top two players from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships for individual play.

Round two will get underway for our Bruins today at 6:10 am PT. Don't worry, the sun is up out east by that time. Once again, golfstat.com will have live team scores and individual scores.

Our Men's Tennis team gets started today at the NCAA Championships at the University of Georgia. Hopefully they will fare as well as our women's squad did yesterday when they quickly eliminated Rice 4-0 to move on to meet Cal in Saturday's quarterfinal. The fourth seeded men will face thirteen seed Ole Miss today in the Round of 16. Assuming the Bruins start the same players that beat Univ San Diego in the regional last week, we will the see a singles lineup of Clay Thompson (So) at #1, Nick Meister (Sr) at #2, Dennis Novikov (Fr) at #3, Marcos Giron (Fr) at #4, Adrien Puget (So) at #5, and Dennis Mkrtchian (Fr) at #6. The doubles parings will feature Alex Brigham (Jr) and Puget at #1, Meister and Novikov at #2, and Giron and Warren Hardie (Jr) at #3.

The Bruins will start at 9 am PT. The complete tournament schedule and links to live scoring and video streams can be found here.

Finally, our softball team gets its post-season underway today. The #12 Bruins (36-18) will host the Los Angeles Regional at Easton Stadium on campus and will face off with Hofstra (38-13) this evening. Hofstra is on a big time roll, winning their last 17 in a row and going 34-1 in their last 35. But one of those games just before their hot streak was a 9-4 loss to our Bruins at the Citrus Classic in Orlando. Hopefully the Bruins will enjoy a rowdy home field advantage in the opener and repeat that performance from the previous matchup. Florida State and San Diego State will meet in the other half of the 4 team regional. The two winners will meet Saturday at 1 PT and the winner of that game will advance to the championship game of the double elimination tournament on Sunday. Bruin Bites has followed the softball team this season and you can find more details about previous games in those installments.

The Bruins are scheduled to get started tonight at 5:30 pm PT. UCLABruins...dot com! (You the man, Ralph!) has the complete tournament schedule, game recaps, free audio, and links to Gametracker. There will also be live updates via twitter.com/uclasoftball.

This is the Friday Bruin post-season open thread so have at it. Go BRUINS!
