About 10 months ago Dashon Hunt, a 4 Start CB from Westlake, had committed to UCLA becoming the first commit for the class of 2013. Today word came out via Brandon Huffman that he decommitted from the Bruins:
Westlake (Calif.) cornerback Dashon Hunt said he has decommitted from UCLA...— Brandon Huffman (@BrandonHuffman) June 9, 2012
Couple of more tweets from Huffman on Hunt:
Said Hunt: "I decommitted from UCLA today.I just didnt feel like that was the best fit for me anymore."— Brandon Huffman (@BrandonHuffman) June 9, 2012
Hunt was offered by, and committed to UCLA when Rick Neuheisel was the head coach...— Brandon Huffman (@BrandonHuffman) June 9, 2012
You can also read a quick premium story here. Hunt is going to be a pretty highlight sought after recruit as programs like Nebraska and Boise State are already going after him hard.
Hunt's decommitment continues a really weird and kind of uncertain stretch of recruiting under Mora at UCLA. His decommmitment comes days after Bruins gave out an offer and took a commitment from a Utah prospect that raised a lot of questions. And the recruiting weirdness in Westwood is happening at a time, while Southern Cal continues to clean up including getting a blockbuster commitment from Su'a Cravens.
While Mora has a solid start at UCLA in terms of the ways he has gone about putting together his staff and closing on the recruiting trail last year, the recent events indicate how the pressure is on him now to get it done with a big season in his first UCLA.
Bruins cannot afford another a mediocre football season with no victory against Southern Cal and no marquee victory in the post-season. If the W-L results continue to reflect the mediocrity of Dan Guerrero's disastrous tenure at UCLA, Bruin football in a bigger hole heading into Mora's second season.
