It's time. It's time to put the proper effort into getting rid of Dan Guerrero. We as a community have done this before, as most of you all know with the LoseLavin and DumpDorrell student/alum-led campaigns, and if we put our collective effort into it there is no reason why we cannot also remove Dan Guerrero as Athletic Director. All it takes is the will. Do you have it?
Some of you may remember my efforts with DumpDorrell. If you don't, it doesn't matter. Just look at my ID, BruinCore. I'm a Bruin to the core. That is all you need to know about me. I have no other agenda than to help our community maintain it's commitment to achieve the great things that we are capable of achieving. My time at UCLA was transformative. I absolutely LOVED UCLA, and always will. It was at UCLA that I learned how to find my true potential and reach for it, forever. I feel an indebtedness that can't be measured in numbers like money. It can only be measured in effort - in effort to help maintain that great community when the opportunity or need arises.
Many years ago that need arose. Sure, it was only football, not for example helping those less fortunate to rise above their means. I know the difference (and I have founded and run a non-profit that does the latter). But football was still highly visible at UCLA and highly dysfunctional, a cancer on our entire athletic department and a growing disease of mediocrity in the UCLA community. Everyone said we, as alums/students/fans, had zero impact on coaching decisions. But a 2 year effort and a flammable ad campaign in the Daily Bruin was absolutely critical in putting an end to the Dorrell experiment.
I was single then and had a lot of time and cushy corporate job to put the effort into getting rid of Dorrell. Now I'm married, got kids, and run my own business, both for profit and non-profit, far away from the US, even further from LA. I have no time for this and am just about to enter my busy season. But I will still put in some effort. I am writing this post to provide you with the opportunity to do something, to follow up on your desire to fire Dan Guerrero. This time, the effort to Dump Dan Now will be far more of a group effort from the start to the finish. I just purchased the domain name DumpDanNow.com (if someone has a better alternative name I'm not against using something else) and will soon purchase the server package and load WordPress as a content management system onto the domain. The content is obviously the important thing.
So, what can you do? Add content!!!
I will be providing IDs and Log-ins to anyone who wants it and has a track record here at BN that shows a commitment to UCLA and to ending Guerrero's reign. All those receiving these log-ins will be able to add content as they wish as I don't have time to manage the submissions (if someone wants to take the role of site "editor" please let me know).
In terms of content, what is obviously needed is the same FACT-BASED reasoning that we used on DumpDorrell.com and we use here on BN, that makes our case irrefutable.
- A complete point-by-point rundown of the FACTS behind Guerrero's mismanagement (to put it kindly) of the Athletic Department is key. Someone or many of you can start putting that list together and it will be prominent on the site, and constantly updated.
- Others can start gathering links to past posts on BN that detail events, timeline, and other data that point to the reasons why Guerrero should be fired.
- Yet others can volunteer to write new posts on the new site as the need and as events warrant.
The content on DumpDanNow will be a collective community effort. I will be adding very little content, if any. This will only go as far as you all want it to go. So it is up to you.
I think you all can get it done. This won't happen overnight. And you all should expect a drawn out battle. But if you have the will, our track record as a community will prove that you will also get this job done. Let me know if you want to do your part. It's time.
