And the first week of camp rolls on. Going to put our open thread a little early today.
After a grueling Monday of practice in 105+ degree IE heat, the fourth practice Coach Jim Mora's first pre-season late summer camp will take place later today. The team will hit the field for the first time at 4:00 pm (the time was changed from the originally scheduled time of 2:45 pm). You can keep checking the practice schedule here.
The "big story" in the UCLA beat after yesterday's practice was how the team is dealing with the heat. I get that practicing in 100+ degree temperate will help the team condition for the Rice game in Houston. I get that it may have a factor in "toughening" up what has been a soft and underachieving program. But ultimately, none of that is going to matter if the team is not getting good coaching and not executing a well devised (attack-oriented) plan on game days. BTW it is going to be about 104 degrees out there today.
Anyway, if you are heading to CSUB (5500 University Parkway, San Bernardino, CA 92407), you should plan on bringing your own chairs, as there are no bleachers around the practice fields. Parking ($5 daily charge) can be secured at the parking kiosk off the Coyote Drive entrance to the university. Plenty of parking is available in lots (Lot G is closest to field) within a short walk of the practice site located on the east side of the campus.
If anyone is heading out to San Berdoo, please fire away with your thoughts on what you have seen, whether it be a few words while you are at the field or after getting home or to the dorms later this afternoon. For the rest of us, fire away with your thoughts on UCLA football, position battles you're looking at with practice about to start, what you're hoping to see by the end of spring, etc.
Fire away.
GO BRUINS.
