Coach Jim Mora appeared on the Tim Brando Show this morning.
This clip is the first half of the interview, but the interesting part of the interview didn't make the cut for the CBS website.
So I've included a transcript after the break.
The interview ended like this. Certain statements have been bolded for emphasis.
Tim: Before I let you go, Jim, as it relates to the future of UCLA football...We hear a lot about what you're trying to do, the administration support and all that. Do you see the administration, that the program really does want to take some of the..this huge money that the Pac-12's gotta be making from its new television deal and reinvest it back into the football program and athletics in general to give you the kind of facilities you need?
CJM: Absolutely.
Tim: Ok.
CJM: People are somewhat critical of our facilities. Our facilities are nice. We are limited by land.
Tim: Uh-huh...That's true.
CJM: One of the most gorgeous area...One of the most gorgeous areas in the country...Westwood...and there's not a lot of room for expansion, you know. And, so, there's limitations, but what I'll tell you is this.
There's a real commitment there. We have a brand new turf field. We have a brand new grass field.
We have a study going on right now. There's plans in the works to put a new football-only facility in. It's just really a lot of it is finding the space, you know, and making it fit within what this campus is which is this beautiful, amazing buildings all over and we want to...we want to honor that with something that looks the same and try to find the space and do it the right way.
But, you know, this campus is amazing.
Our facilities are absolutely fine. I mean, could they be better? Yeah, but that's what every team in the country could say too. You can always be better.
You know what it's about?
It's about the product you put on the field. Recruits want to win. Kids want to win. Sure, they're enamored by facilities. They're enamored by uniforms and that's an initial draw.
But the bottom line is this: You want kids who are motivated, first and foremost, because they want a great education, they want to be coached well, and they want to win.And those three things have nothing to do with facilities. They have nothing to do with uniforms.
So I think our administration...Dan Guerrero...he does a great job. I mean, all you have to do is look at the record of our..of our teams..our athletic teams and really there's no comparison anywhere in the country to what we've been able to do here at UCLA through the years that Dan's been here and the support he's given the football team has been outstanding.
Tim: Give Dan my best. (sarcastically) And get back up into that cramped-up cubbyhole of yours. I know it's hard...it's hard being shoehorned in there at Westwood. Listen, Jim....
CJM: It's a great place....a great place.
Tim: I know. Thank you so much for the time today. Best of luck on Saturday and it's great talking and we'll do it again.
CJM: OK, Tim, take care.
