The Bears brought Kahlil Bell back to Chicago this week
It has not been a strong past few years for the UCLA Football program, but the team is still sending alumni to the NFL. During Week 1, there were 22 Bruins on NFL rosters, including players on injured reserve and a pair on practice squads. The OC Register posted a roundup of how these Bruins performed during the season's opening week. Some of the highlights:
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew rushed 19 times for 77 yards, caught 3 passes for 18, and returned two punts for 4 in the OT loss to Minnesota. ... Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis caught 5 passes for 52 yards, including a 1-yard TD. ...
Left out of the OC Register's summary was the performance of Mike Harris. The Chargers brought him to camp as an undrafted free agent following a solid career in Westwood. Mike made the team, and made his NFL debut in style as San Diego's starting Left Tackle during the team's victorious season opener, on Monday Night Football in Oakland's Black Hole.
This week sees yet another Bruin rejoin the league. Following an injury to Matt Forte suffered in Thursday night's game vs the Packers, the Chicago Bears have announced the resigning of Kahlil Bell. Still without a team is Brian Price, who was waived by the Bears during the preseason. The Broncos worked him out earlier this week, but no word on if or when he is going to be picked up. It has been a tough year for Brian; here's hoping that he finds an NFL home soon.
The Bruins currently on an NFL roster, including players on Injured Reserve or a Practice Squad:
David Carter - Defensive Tackle
Justin Medlock - Placekicker
Nate Chandler - Defensive Tackle (Practice Squad)
Nelson Rosario - Tight End (Practice Squad)
Kahlil Bell - Running Back
Congrats to the Bruins who are living out their dream in the NFL.
There are plenty of games ongoing in the league today and later tonight. Feel free to use this as an open thread for today's action.
