Well we are half way through the long awaited first home game of the Jim Mora era at UCLA. Not surprisingly the Rose Bowl is awash in a sea of red due to the total incompetence of Dan Guerrero's athletic department (ICYMI - they were PWNEd on national TV before the game). Still despite Guerrero, Mora's football team put together perhaps the most entertaining half of football in year. They are battling away as the score is tied at 24-24.
Let's start with the good stuff. The Bruin offense. HOLY CRAP. The Bruins offense exploded in the first half racking up 372 yards against the Nebraska
defense blackshirts. They are driving up and down the Rose Bowl. They have looked pretty damn amazing - explosive, unpredictable and multidimensional - carving up the Nebbie defense. Brett Hundley looks like a season vet calmly slicing and dicing the Huskers, as he has completed 13 of 17 passes for 201 yards, 3 Tds while also rushing for 39 yards in 6carries. He has already completed passes to 8 different receivers including two TD tosses to Big Joe Fauria and a big one to Steven Manfro for a score. Oh ... and I think our OL is "surviving" just fine.
Now things were a little dicey on the defensive side. They had a rough time (attn. Jordan Zumwalt and Damien Holmes) against Taylor Martinez and the Husker running game in the first half. They had some big plays here and there. Anthony Barr was a monster again. But the Husker rolled up 334 yards of total offense. Here is to hoping Coach Spanos can make some adjustments like he did against Rice.
We just hurt ourselves with some costly mistakes in Q1 in the form of missed FG and a fumble by Jordon James. If not for those mistakes (and a bullsh!t PI call on Jerry Johnson) we would be in much better shape.
Let's hope the Bruins come out breathing fire in the second half. If they can take care of business in the second half and finish on a strong, they will be well set up for a big season. Let's get it done Bruins.
Here is your second half thread. Have at it.
