The #6 Bruins volleyball team will face the #1 UCI Anteaters in the championship match Saturday evening after defeating #13 UCSB and UCSD on Friday.
The Bruins opened their 2013 season with a come from behind win over the hosts. After dropping the first two sets of the match, Coach John Speraw made a lineup change that keyed a comeback by his young team. The victory is the 200th in Coach Speraw's 11 year career.
The Bruins beat UCSD 3-2 (26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 17-25, 15-8) in their second match of the tournament to set up a showdown against Coach Speraw's former team in the final. The Bruins, who return only two starters from last year's squad, face a formidable opponent in UCI, last year's national champion, the 2012 UCSB asics Invitational champion, and unanimous national #1 in the American Volleyball Division I-II Men's Coaches Preason Top 15 Poll. The Anteaters swept both of their tournament opponents on Friday 3-0.
